I tried this beer on May 9, 2008 after purchasing from the Queen’s Quay LCBO outlet. The beer poured a beautiful translucent rusty red colour with some effervescence leading to a short-lived whitish head. The aroma was sweet malt, some fruit tones (I’m thinking plums), and a little hoppiness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, amply carbonated, and a little sour on the tongue. The flavour is no where near as fruity as the aroma. There is some sweet maltiness, some sourness in the middle, and slightly bitter finish. This beer suited my tastes quite well. Gedge (7), Toronto, Canada does not count Jun 20, 2007 Much better than I expected. Nice amber colour, lightly carbonated. Bit malty as others have a noted and a surprisingly flavourful with a nice bitter finish. Just bought the one can as I thought it wasn’t go to impress, but I’d drink this again. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Nov 13, 2007 500ml can.
Murky red color. NIce finger of head, good lacing on my glass. Aroma is sweet, kinda like cake icing, but i can detect some hops in there, along with some ripe fruit. Flavour is clean, and slightly malty, with a touch of hops, and the sweetness from the aroma is there in the finish. Mouthfell is slightly thick, i guess you could say creamy. Wow, i must admit i wasn;t expecting much, but this is a very nice offering. sinkhole (176), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jul 1, 2007 Surprisingly good. Poured copper red with good head. Aromas of carmel and malted hops. Initial taste is a bit yeasty but gives way to a slight fruit (apple?) and bitter hop finish. I will keep an eye out for this in the future. pootzboy (1035), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada May 7, 2006 Updated: Jul 3, 2009An interesting twist on the cream ale style....red carmel malts add some dimension to the fruity tastes left by the yeast. Pour puts a clouded amber-red ale in the glass with a smallish sticky off white cap that reduced to a surface clinging lace...aromas of caramel, spice, fruits...very subdued. Medium-light bodied with a creamy mouth feel. Sweet up front like toast and toffee but there are enough hops to yeast by products to offer a nice fruity undertone...the finish is the best best part of this ale... the hops and roasted malt "char" gang up to turn the caramel sweetness into a kind of licorice-toffee taste with a light fruity side note.....very different but in a nice way. Some may say this is too sweet for an ale but I think that the sweetness is well enough in check to keep the drink from becoming cloying even though the balance is a bit malt weighted. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Oct 30, 2007 473ml can from trade with matt7215. Pours hazy orange. Frothy and large off white head, lasts forever. Floral aroma with a bit of mal fruitiness. Lemony hops are up front, tangy, a bit sour, this fades to some toasty malt with a bit of light leafy green hops in the finish. Light body with little carbonation. Was expecting a much sweeter product, the tartness was interestng. wilderthanyou (409), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Apr 6, 2007 Surprised at the low marks this beer got. I was pleasantly surprised. Pours an amber red colour with a very thin stick head. Very subtle aromas of caramel and vanilla bean. The aroma reflects the taste up front, with a hoppy build up which comes to a nice bitter climax at the end. Really appreciated the flavors in this beer. The palat was a tiny bit watery, but not too bad at all, carbonation was decent. All and all I enjoyed this beer, and I’d certainly buy it again. jimmay (179), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Aug 30, 2008 473 ml can from LCBO. Large carbonation, small head, quickly dissipates. Fruity, smoky armoa, and flavour. Nice orangey, red colour. Intersting, not sure I’d want to drink all night, but a differeent diversion from the ordinary.
