Commercial Description:
A re-creation of a beer Jefferson would have had brewed at Monticello based on purchase orders found there for beer making. Very full-bodied, deep reddish-brown, rich malty and complex. (9.5% abv!)

On tap at the brewpub. Looked forward to this one. Color was a dark amber/auburn. Aroma of fruit, caramel and must; hint of alcohol. Flavor was fruity, bready, caramel and alcohol. Some barleywine-like components here. Some sweetness throughout. Pretty tasty brew.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Light roasted and vague spiced aroma. Flavour is caramelish, light roasted and with a ligh yeasty phenolic touch. Mild roasted flavoured finish.

On tap. Pours a clear amber golden with a creamy beige head. Sweetish aroma of nuts, caramel and alcohol. Quite full-bodied, nuts, sherry, wood and alcohol. Rather alcoholic finish. An unusual brew. 060709

I thought this was straight-up genius. First off, the batch they were pouring on July 3rd, 2008 was 9.2%, and it was a brown monster: very full bodied (not dark roasted, but full like a broth) and concealed its alcohol very very well. Breadcrust was the top note, with a midsection of warm nut and a finish like... heat without burn. Very nice.

A subdued sweet toffee aroma with notes of vegetables? Copper color with a beige head. Sour and hoppy with notes of vinnegar and vegetables. Was it supposed to taste that way? Did not like this one either.

On tap at Stone XIth Anniversary Festival. Beautiful clear mahogany color with red highlights and a thin head. Some malt sweetness in the aroma with both fruit and toffee. Quite sweet with light molasses flavors, ripe fruits, anise, toasted malt, and alcohol. Pleasant, moderate bitterness with some alcohol warmness in the finish.

Tasted at Stone XI Party. Clear red amber with a fizzy white head. Strong caramel malty aroma. Taste of wood, caramel, and toffee.

On tap (9.5%abv) poured a hazy copper/brown color with no head. Aroma was all malt with some toffee notes. Taste was big on the alcohol and hardly any hop balance. Not a beer I would recommend.
