Ernest (4251), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 19, 2007 750mL bottle. Head is initially huge, frothy, rocky, white, fully lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain/bread), moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs, barnyard), with notes of lemon zest, Juicy Fruit gum, pepper, and an entire pencil (wood, graphite, and eraser), hints of dried pineapple and mint. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. From the first whiff from my glass, I knew I was in for an amazing experience. This is an extraordinarily complex and balanced beer, and a single summary phrase for this might be "De Ranke XX BItter’s little brother". But little only in alcohol...otherwise this is loaded with similar aromas as that beer, which come from all components of beer production...malt, hops, yeast and fermentation effects are all equally weighted and just drop-dead gorgeous. Fluffy mouthfeel that’s much more substantial than expected, yet still ideal for quaffing. Beautiful clean bitterness that avoids the aggressive tongue-scraping character one might get in a similar attempt from American brewers. And all this at only 4.5%?! Unbelievable. This is a very special creation. Kinda like an extra-hoppy saison. I need a case of this.
Aubrey (2614), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 9, 2008 Cloudy golden-orange with a nice and lasting white head. Texture was light and soft. Nose was spicy. Malt flavors had a toasty, nutty edge with a mild sweetness (light caramel, faint honey, rock candy). Hops were rather spicy (white pepper, grass, wildflowers) followed by a slightly bitter aftertaste. Somewhat of a malt off-flavor in the aftertaste (hollow and plastic-like). Overall, not too shabby, just a little thin and shallow in some areas. At times, it made me think of Urthel Hop-It, but Urthel Hop-It is much better. probstk (695), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Oct 8, 2008 330 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. GUSHER.
App.: Cloudy deep golden/orange, small white foam with good lacing.
Aroma: Starts off with an odd, sort of savoury/meaty/dusty note, somewhat fruity, quite yeasty, a touch of citrus slightly peppery and spicy, bubblegum esters.
Palate: Medium-ish body, soft, almost non-existent effervescence.
Flav.: A bit dirty and earthy, a bit of that savoury/brothy note, quite peppery, the fruits, citrus and esters have vanished; dry with fair bitterness.

Hansen (1780), Randers, Denmark Oct 3, 2008 Golden coloured and unclear. Has a white head, mostly lasting. Aroma is very hoppy, metal, crisp, sharp. Flavor starts moderate bitter and finish heavy bitter. Dry texture, lively carbonation. rederic (1444), montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 2, 2008 Hazy blonde hue, with a fluffy white head, leaving laces, yeasty, bready dough and light citrus nose, with a hint of vanilla spiciness, and a faint floral hop lemony aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, earthy pale malt, bready dough character, with a nice flowery hop leafiness, citrus accent, with a mild lemon zest note, leading towards a fruity, lemony hop bitterness finish.
