iwantalambic (1361), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Feb 28, 2006 330 mL bottle, thanks to Secret Santa – IslandHaole! Rich, transparent black colored liquid with a bronze-garnet hue. Darkly toasted grain and faint coffee aromatics, matched with a nice prune and semi-sweet chocolate presence. Sharp, acidic palate with a grainy carbonation. Flavours aren’t quite as full as the aroma offering some fresh tree bark, burnt raisins and charred oak. All around pretty tasty beer. aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA Oct 31, 2005 Bottle. Opaque black, tan head. Nice roasted coffee aroma with strong nut and dark-malt presence. The coffee is the most prominent of the flavors but the mouthfeel is just too thin. Needs to be thicker, more alcohol presence, etc. I seem to write this about a lot of otherwise-good Japanese micros. Slightly estery but somehow this doesn’t hurt the finish as much as it does most beers. IslandHaole (1030), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan May 31, 2004 A very dark brown with a large light brown head. Nice roasty malts in the nose. Mild with some bittersweet roastiness in the flavor. Considering I’m not a Dark Lager fan, this is decent enough.
