Ungstrup (11378), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 30, 2007 Bottled. An amber beer with a fast disappearing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel, and lesser notes of alcohol. The flavor is very sweet malty with light notes of alcohol, leading to a rather bitter end. It has a good body. Papsoe (10459), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 3, 2007 (Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of madsberg. Clear, orangey brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Very solid body with lots of roasted malt, a twist of caramel and some hop bitterness in the finish. Very solid and well crafted. 290407 Emil (6077), Copenhagen, Denmark May 4, 2007 Bottle. Amber colour with a big beige head. Caramel malt, rye bread aroma and taste, light roasted. Medium body with a sweet dry finish. Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 4, 2005 Dark brown, clearish body. Nice lacing quickly resumes to cover. Burnt caramel owns the nose, but can’t completely hide pleasant herbs and toffee as well as a mellow roastiness. Not very complex, but well displayed, sweet and aptly malty. Perhaps some earthiness would be appreciated to pair the nutty caramel and give the impression of a reduced sweetness. Mild alcohol, highly carbonated, almost too much, medium bodied. Interesting duff (5407), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Feb 6, 2005 Bottle. Not as sticky as other doppelbocks. Typical caramel and soy, some chocolate. Medium bodied, with some light acidity. Not too sticky/sweet, which was good.
