motelpogo (4124), Plzen, Czech Republic Nov 15, 2002 kindly recommended to me at the fabulous ambrosetti biershop in berlin. if a beer can be too well-balanced, this is it. a pear schnapps aroma and full, rich body. plentiful flavours almost indistinguishable from one another - some treacle, porridge and carrot. maeib (3997), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Jun 1, 2005 Updated: Apr 6, 2006Bottled. A dark brown beer with a reddish hint and minimal head. The aroma is sweet with Christmas cake fruits, caramel and some roasty malt. The taste is clean and alcoholic. There is more dark fruit and sweet caramel. Quite a rich very tasty beer. Another quality German strong lager. leaparsons (3963), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Apr 27, 2003 A lovely dunkle. This had chocolate and light coffee flavours with fruity notes. Smooth and complex and easy to drink for a 7%er. IslandHaole (1030), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Feb 25, 2005 Very dark but clear brown. A small off-white head. A sweet malt, toffee, soy sauce and traces of maple. Sweet but not cloying, caramel, toffee, chocolate, molases. A warming very drinkable brew. A nice dopplebock that comes close to Andechs and Celebrator. JorisPPattyn (4493), Antwerpen, Belgium Jun 4, 2006 Chestnut colour; small, off-white head. Bready, nutty smell; dark, deep malts, pretty complex but difficult to describe. Soft sweet, caramel syrup but not cloying, cake icing or filling, Sachertorte, and just a touch of hops retronasal. Very good balance. Finishes ever so slightly nutty-oxydized. Slick, oily, very well bodied. Surprisingly complex beer, wich is hard to estimate at depth because of its exceptional balance. Digging deeper, there’s a lot going on here. Thanks to Stephen D’Arcy for sharing this one.
