Commercial Description:
Telegraph California Ale is our flagship beer and is our interpretation of the unique ales that were commonly brewed up and down the West Coast in the 19th century. It is an unfiltered, medium-bodied beer, with a rich amber color and a rocky, white head. The beer is crafted using domestic American ingredients and fermented with a unique yeast strain that accentuates the hoppy spiciness, while also imparting fruity and subtly sour flavors. The aromas are spicy and earthy, reminiscent of the rich agricultural valleys surrounding Santa Barbara.

Bottle first pour was all foam. Had to let this one breath for about 20minutes before I was able to get an amber body with big white head slowly subsideing. Yeasty, grainy and spicey nothing to light up the nose wih normal brew. Mellow beer with mostly grain and spice notes. Light fruit detected in the low bittering Easy on the palate if looking for a long session brew that is hard to pour this may be it.

Sampled this at the very new Union Ale Brewing Co. in Santa Barbara - but I’m not quite sure they had the right beer in my glass. This one was rich and malty with some very spicy hop characteristics - not very Belgian seeming. Nothing really sour about it, but somewhat spicy. Orange in color with a thick frothy white head.

I was not sure what this was because of the name. It was for sure not a California Common, and was relieved to come here and find it was a Belgian, which is exactly what it tasted like. It poured a rich red color with a quickly dissipating white head and light lacing rings. Nose is of citrus, clove, and some ripe fruit. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is malty with some mild bitterness. Dry bitter finish. A very drinkable brew.

750 ml bottle.

An utter disaster. This a Belgian ale? I thought it was an infected scotch ale. Awful humus and rotten fruit, overpowering malt. Ack! Drainpour.

Slight ember color with a massive eggshell head. Heavily carbonated. Earthy, malty, with a hint of sour...not sure if that was intended. Not sure I can find the belgian in this. Pass.

Aroma is a little plain. Amber/reddish appearance. Not much head. Nice lacing after a few sips. Typical amber flavors with a skosh bit of spice and some alcohol punch to it.

Bottle thanks to the bosses had at home. Alround rating: Massive carbonation again, not as bad as the wheat, but huge all the same. Soem sort of dusty grainy brown and earthy malt, some light spice, dusty yeast character. Theres nothing holding it together and its hard to drink.

A Mes rate. Bottle at the Weekend of Tarts After Tasting.
Golden brown with no head. A fair bit of pukey malt in this one. Some card too. Really, it’s all over the place and having some fairly major issues. Fruity malt, some grassy hops underneath but it’s out of order.
