Commercial Description:
Telegraph California Ale is our flagship beer and is our interpretation of the unique ales that were commonly brewed up and down the West Coast in the 19th century. It is an unfiltered, medium-bodied beer, with a rich amber color and a rocky, white head. The beer is crafted using domestic American ingredients and fermented with a unique yeast strain that accentuates the hoppy spiciness, while also imparting fruity and subtly sour flavors. The aromas are spicy and earthy, reminiscent of the rich agricultural valleys surrounding Santa Barbara.

Bottle. Ledgers Liquor. Pours copper, medium off-white head. Aroma is slightly fruity, mild must, very light banana, honey. Flavor is wonderful lightly fruity, hop oiliiness noticeable and fresh-tasting, light flavor of toasted malt, very mild tartness. Very good.

Like a Belgian Ale should be. Draught at City Beer Store. Lots of flavor - banana in there - and excellent aroma. Well done.

On tap at City Beer in SF. Good stuff - it’s sort of a cross between a Belgian ale and a California common. Aroma is sweet malt, spice, and Belgian yeast. Flavor is caramel malt, yeast, citrus notes, and mild hops. Smooth, medium palate.

Bottle. Rich amber beer with a big light tan head. Malty, spicy aroma with a light tartness. Malty, light caramel flavor with yeast and a light tartness. Medium bodied. Malty, breadiness lingers with citrus and yeast. Some rye spiciness/earthiness.

Coppery hue with a fading head and minimal lace. The aroma is very much not want I was expecting, spicy, fruity and yeasty. Wanted a hoppy and acidic APA/IPA beer but instead got a Belgium Ale. The taste is actually pretty nice with the spicy character working with a biscuity malt background and a hint of twang towards the chalky and flowery finish. The mouth feel works well with the flavor, slightly aggressive and refreshing. After a less than stellar first impression this beer came back to show me something good... just dont expect a west coast hoppy ale.

A slightly hazed orange/bronze with just a thin halo of white. Yeasty nose of belgian origin with hints of clove and orange. Watery mouthfeel with a light sheet of belgian yeast flavors..lightly spicy flavors around. A little spritzy. Not too bad.

Surprising beer. Pours clear copper with a big white head. Spicy hop and malt nose; akin to a Sierra Nevada. The taste is very smooth. Sweet malt and crisp hops, nice balance of citrus and resin, with a very distinctive finish. Sour, funky, bretty, and delicious. Its like a Flemish take on an APA. Neither overrun the other, but instead bring out the best in both.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs; poured a rich amber color with a huge, frothy white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, spice, vanilla and a hint of fruitiness. Pretty straightforward and not overly tasty of a beer. Some caramel, yeast, earthy/herbal elements with a slightly tart flavor. Just ok.
