Commercial Description:
Telegraph California Ale is our flagship beer and is our interpretation of the unique ales that were commonly brewed up and down the West Coast in the 19th century. It is an unfiltered, medium-bodied beer, with a rich amber color and a rocky, white head. The beer is crafted using domestic American ingredients and fermented with a unique yeast strain that accentuates the hoppy spiciness, while also imparting fruity and subtly sour flavors. The aromas are spicy and earthy, reminiscent of the rich agricultural valleys surrounding Santa Barbara.

Bottle. Body-dark honey with a thick rig of bubbles and an ultra thin film of bubbles. Nose-big macro husk, light spoiled/sweet, lightly lactic, a bit of old hops, overall an odd industrial type nose. Taste-low to medium sweetness, slight alcohol, caramel, tart apple, light cream, some unrefined wood, macro on the backend. Overall a very “macro” tasting beer, but in a clean pure way. An easy drinker would make a great food/session beer.

Surprising beer. Pours clear copper with a big white head. Spicy hop and malt nose; akin to a Sierra Nevada. The taste is very smooth. Sweet malt and crisp hops, nice balance of citrus and resin, with a very distinctive finish. Sour, funky, bretty, and delicious. Its like a Flemish take on an APA. Neither overrun the other, but instead bring out the best in both.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs; poured a rich amber color with a huge, frothy white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, spice, vanilla and a hint of fruitiness. Pretty straightforward and not overly tasty of a beer. Some caramel, yeast, earthy/herbal elements with a slightly tart flavor. Just ok.

Bottle from South Bay Drug; corked and caged. Clear amber color with a slight white head. Aroma is somewhat caramel malt with mild fruit and a touch of yeast or sour. Near medium body with carbonation that is noticeable, but not spritzy. There are light fruity notes, possibly a bit of citrous zest. The malt sweetness is mild, everpresent, but not excessive. Pleasant, suggestive of a lighter Belgian ale.

We got a keg of this straight from the brewery and it was nearly undrinkable. It is sickenly sweet and tastes as if it weren’t hopped at all.

Clear amber with medium off white head. Sweet and mild hoppy aroma with caramel and yeasty notes. Sweet flavor with yeasty, caramel and fruity notes. Ends sweet.
