Commercial Description:
Telegraph California Ale is our flagship beer and is our interpretation of the unique ales that were commonly brewed up and down the West Coast in the 19th century. It is an unfiltered, medium-bodied beer, with a rich amber color and a rocky, white head. The beer is crafted using domestic American ingredients and fermented with a unique yeast strain that accentuates the hoppy spiciness, while also imparting fruity and subtly sour flavors. The aromas are spicy and earthy, reminiscent of the rich agricultural valleys surrounding Santa Barbara.

I had this beer for the first time at a local wine bar. It had a nice color and citrus hop. Very malty flavor with a nice finish. A good beer to enjoy with dinner.

From the Los Olivos Grocery this beer caught my eye. Amber and super big frothy head. Aroma was yeasty, citrus and spice. Flavour was malty with a complex and enjoyable yeasty flavour. This beer is smooth and creamy yet bubbly and hoppy. Lots of citrus flavour throughout adds a zing at the finish.

Beautiful hazy ochre color. Mild carbonation with a beige bubbly head that slowly dissipates. A slightly herbal, citrus and spicy hop aroma. Very nice complexity. Tart fruit, freshly baked bread, a little black pepper and bitter orange peel. Outstanding!

750ml bottle from Sandy’s San Luis Obispo; nose of spices, a little funk, and some fruitiness; lightly hazed copper-orange with a 3" head, that lasts for 10 minutes and laces pretty thickly as it recedes; flavor of light pumpkin pie (pumpkin and nutmeg), some tartnes, but not very heavy, caramel, and a little sweetness. as it warms the tarty funkiness disappears and it tastes more like a Cal Common with its fruitiness and less like a saison or Belgian ale. Much better than their Porter!

This California Common pours a light orange gold color from a corked 750ml bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet. A medium bodied California Common. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice carbonation. It has that soft round mouthfeel that you get from some steam beers, I mean California Commons, but it also hs a touch of Belgian Yeast esters. Kind of a different take. Very smooth. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle purchased at Holiday Wine. Shared with Bartzilla. An interesting ale this was. Reading that it was a California Common, I immediately thought "Anchor Steam", but alas, this tasted nothing like a steam beer. It has a very Belgian nose, with lots of spices prominent. It pours a nice rich amber color. The flavor is similar to a Saison - with hints of pepper, clove, banana, ginger, etc. There is a sourness at the finish that we both agreed must come from the unique yeast. It’s very subtle and the sourness actually adds to the drinkability. This is a great summer ale, and something I am sure I will return to.

Poured from 750, bottle 4.10.09, courtesy of SamGamgee. Poured an amber/glod with huge white bubbly head. Nose was very yeasty and fruity, kind of like a Saison. Semi-sweet malty flavor, just a bit on the sour side. Very nice!
