Commercial Description:
This intensely sour "wild ale" recalls the earliest rustic beers crafted centuries ago before brewers had an understanding of controlled fermentation. Brewed with the addition of lemon verbena, as well as lactobacillus and brettanomyces. Telegraph Reserve Wheat is an all-together different beast from modern beer. Not for the faint of heart, this special brew is available in extremely limited quantities.

Considered a berliner weisse here on Ratebeer. Interesting. The cloudy pale yellow pour is topped by an evanescent white foam. Its pale malts+ wheat combine into a dryish biscuitiness while tea-like herbal, and zesty lemon suggest upcoming refreshment skills. Its brett character, while not so subtle, remains soft-edged, drying the palate in which little residual sugars remain despite the tasty, crisp pale malts. Rather detached mouthfeel where the fat, foaming and biting bubbles enhance the thinness perception and perhaps diminishes its a priori immense drinkability. The sourness comprises both citric and lactic components, both of which are shows up get a little peaky in the finish. Perhaps not the most refined nor tight/cohesive, but intriguing, inviting and highly original.

Poured from 750mi, courtesy of SamGamgee. Light in color, pale yellow. Nose of lemon with crisp, light lemon taste. Not too sour, actually a very decent wheat beer.

Thanks BVC! Hazy pale yellow, some clove spice, but mostly lightly soured wheat. Juicy sourness, refreshing and lively lemonadey. Quenching.

75cl bottle. Lightly hazy yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is super complex, with spice, citrus, funk, sweet bread, wheat, and doughy yeast. The flavor is not as sour as the aroma suggests, with a light tartness that plays with some sweet, doughy malt to give off a lemon pastry impression. Bready with some light spice as well. Medium bodied with some spritzy bubbles. While this isn’t as sour as I was expecting, it’s a damn pleasant and drinkable wheat beer.

22. Thanks, BVC! Pours a crystal clear pale yellow with dense, creamy white foam. Webby lace aplenty. Nice big lemon-y and verbena-y nose. Fizzy, watery light body. Tangy lemon notes, but overall a very mild mid-palate. Not sharp or crisp enough to be really refreshing and nowhere near complex. Slightly tart and tangy finish.

Bottle courtesy SamGamgee. Pours a slightly hazy light gold color, much darker than a typical German Berliner Weisse. Lactic lemon zesty aroma with candied citrus and some sort of unidentifiable spiciness. Hard to stop smelling this one. Flavor is wheaty with lemon meringue, slight banana pith, coriander(?), and a wheat malt finish. Solid tartness. Nice robust flavor and body.
