Commercial Description:
This intensely sour "wild ale" recalls the earliest rustic beers crafted centuries ago before brewers had an understanding of controlled fermentation. Brewed with the addition of lemon verbena, as well as lactobacillus and brettanomyces. Telegraph Reserve Wheat is an all-together different beast from modern beer. Not for the faint of heart, this special brew is available in extremely limited quantities.

Draft. A hazy light golden beer with a thin lazing white head. The aroma is slightly acidic with notes of brettanomyces and friut. The flavor is sweet with acidic notes of brettanomyces as well as notes of citrus fruit and some wheat, leading to a dry wheaty and slightly tart finish.

(DC Local Gathering, 75cl bottle, thanks CaptainCougar) Large white head that mostly dissipates atop lightly hazed lemon yellow body. Aroma is medium sweet, lemon, funk, light cream. Taste is medium sweet, lemon, some funk, fruitiness. Not as tart as most Berliner Weisses -- pleasant enough, but no pucker.

Considered a berliner weisse here on Ratebeer. Interesting. The cloudy pale yellow pour is topped by an evanescent white foam. Its pale malts+ wheat combine into a dryish biscuitiness while tea-like herbal, and zesty lemon suggest upcoming refreshment skills. Its brett character, while not so subtle, remains soft-edged, drying the palate in which little residual sugars remain despite the tasty, crisp pale malts. Rather detached mouthfeel where the fat, foaming and biting bubbles enhance the thinness perception and perhaps diminishes its a priori immense drinkability. The sourness comprises both citric and lactic components, both of which are shows up get a little peaky in the finish. Perhaps not the most refined nor tight/cohesive, but intriguing, inviting and highly original.

Bottle… mgumby10’s & hopscotch’s WtFFfFDotF Throwdown … Cloudy straw-colored ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma puts forth modest notes of warm bread, clove, CornNuts and only a rumor of banana. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Light pale grain sweetness and mild lemon tartness. Crisp, tangy finish.

Bottle courtesy of BMan1113VR. Pours a hazy amber with a lasting white head. Smells of lactic acid, tarte, wheat, grassy. Tastes tarte and lacti with a refreshing lemony citric finish. I’d drink this all summer if I had access.
