| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Mar 28, 2009 Poured deep mahogany red with a generous piilowy head, good retention and great lacing. Very subtle roasted coffee aroma with notes of dark fruit. Tart fruitiness up front on the palate, with the roasted coffee staying in the background. Sharp wine-like presence follows and lingers. Lighter than I expected, and the tart aftertaste is a bit of a turnoff. Think I’ll pass on this next time. Dickinsonbeer (3494), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is nutty toasty, slight papery oxidation, slight sherry notes, brown sugar, slightly tart with citric and lactic acid. Flavor is also citric and slightly tart- cereal grainy, toast, tannic and astringent, light chocolate and some salty paper oxidation with hints of wood and vanilla. steview (902), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Mar 25, 2009 minute milk chocolate aroma; black body with average tan head; grainy flavor splashed with milk and cocoa with an upsetting milk, dirty socks, and tap water aftertaste; not great at all--desperately decent. daknole (2973), Plantation, Florida, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 16, 2009 On tap at The Red in Santa Cruz. Pours very dark brown but transparent. Creamy tan head leaves tons of nice lacework. Aroma is rather faint. Milk chocolate, sweet red fruits, sourish alcohol. Flavor is dominated by wine character. Lots of jam and marmalade notes with only a touch of cocoa powder to signify the beer as a porter. No roast, no bitterness. Alcohol manifests almost like a rum note. I’m not sure if such a small beer (5.8%) should even be considered for barrel-aging, especially with wine. There’s just no way it can stand up. Mouthfeel is a little flat, like it was on nitro. Could be good, needs to be retooled. As is, this beer is kind of a mess. LtDan (516), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 12, 2009 All I could taste was the wine. I didn’t got much Porter characteristics at all. Had a nice red wine aroma, some barrel and cork. That it was too thin and too carbonated. I salvaged the 750ml by using the remainder in beef stew. egajdzis (3629), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 1, 2009 Poured a dark chestnut color with a large, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, red wine, chocolate, nuts, and toffee. Taste of roast, bakers chocolate, red wine grapes, vanilla, light smoke, toffee, and vanilla. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours jet black with a solid bubbly tan head. Oak and malt nose with some yeasty-ness to it. Beer is pretty sour maybe from the zin barrels. Very slight chocolate hints. Mouth is thin with a syrupy finish. Not that great.
