Commercial Description:
This special winter brew starts with a malty sweetness. Then balances with a fair amount of hops. Very heavy on the alcohol as it warms. Highly anticipated every season. This special winter brew comes in at an impressive 9% ABV.

Draught at the brewpub
Nice amber color, creamy head. It has a good caramel aroma, sweetish, some hops show up. Strong body, round mouthfeel, sweet caramel flavor well balanced by a quite good hopping. Also the final is well balanced. Between the English and American styles. Very good.

Ended up drinking this most the night. That said, still not amazed with it. Almost no molasses in the aroma, it has a drinkable flavor to it, but unfortunately, this gave me a bit of a headache the next day, something most beers never do.

Draught at the brewery in proper glassware. Probably served a little too cold at first but the aroma and flavour really developed. Clear mahogany colour with a thin tan film on top. Slight aroma of molasses and candied fruit. Flavour started with more candied fruit and finished with dark chocolate and brandy. Very drinkable barley wine.

Consumed on draft at brewery, 12/30/07. Clear, medium coppery hue. Thin skin of foam. No active carbonation. Aroma = nothing. Flavor is big, thick, sweet and strong with a pronounced yeast note. Mild black pepper and cinnamon aftertase. Did not notice the high ABV in this one. A significant barleywine due to its smoothness, balance and drinkability.
