fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Oct 19, 2008 Draught at the brewpub Black color, creamy head. It has a pungent, bad aroma of medicines, herbs (chinese black jelly?). Medium-weak body, with some roasted malt and lighter traces of medicines. Weird. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Aug 18, 2008 Tap at the Freakin’ Frog, pours almost black with a two finger cream colored head. Nose is tasted malts and subtle smoke. This carries into the flavor and ends in a slight bitter smoke flavor. Quite nice for a LV beer. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 18, 2008 On tap at the Freakin Frog. Poured a deep brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate and some nuttiness. Tastes of chocolate, roast, light caramel, and nuts. BelgianBeerGal (1275), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA May 17, 2008 Draught at brewpub. Dark chocolate brown colour with a medium head and great lacing. Not a big aroma but a roasted malt and smoke. More smoke, malt plus coffee and bitter chocolate in the flavour. Really surprising schwarz. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 20, 2008 Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours a dark brown color with ruby around the edges, and a medium thin and creamy beige head that burns away slowly. Slick latticework of lacing. The aroma is roasty with malt and chocolate, plus some nuts. Light, smooth body with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and light hops. The finish is sweet and malty and leaves a lightly bitter hops aftertaste. Overall this is pretty good, especially considering the low ABV. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Apr 7, 2007 Not much aroma but looks nice. Taste is really quite nice. Sweet and quite reminiscent of a dunkel or schwarz. (Now I see it is.) Certainly drinkable. bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA Apr 12, 2004 on tap at brewpub: im trying to remember if ive ever had a schwarzbier??? so what do i have to compare it to in its class. this poured deep ruby brown. with a thin tan head that was...gone. but still full bodied enough in the mouth. they serve these beers (all their beers) in an ice frozen glass. now we know what this does to beer with flavor, it kills it. i could barely detect any nose at all. tried to warm it up a bit with my hands but still nothing. the tast was of choc malt with some sweetness there and some definate bittering hops coming through in the end. not a bad tasting beer. reminds of a hopped dunkels of sorts. MMM...Beer (385), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Mar 1, 2004 Tenaya is one of the those brew pubs who you can always count on serving up a decent ale. They may not be out of this world but definitely enjoyable. However, Tenaya definitely out did themselves on this one. At first glance it appears to be deep deep brown (almost black in color) however when you hold it up to the light you a see a nice deep ruby red glow. Roasted malts on the nose and palate with hint of refreshing sweetness.
