Jan 1, 2008 on tap-pours a disappearing light brown head and black color. Aroma is coffee, then anise/licorice/molasses/dark malt. Taste is anise/licorice/molasses/dark malt, some spice hops, then coffee which follows into after taste. Nice, rich, full body. OK carbonation.

Sweet marshmallows and hot chocolate and maybe some baby powder too in the aroma with alcohol in there as well. Decent mouthfeel and texture. Can taste the alcohol - just isn’t balanced well.

sweet and sour dark chocolate aroma,
rich dark chocolate flavor, roasted bitterness keeps it pretty dry, just a touch of vanilla sweetness slowly builds to bring it back,

Dec 6, 2007 Rich black pour with a creamy beige head from the nitro pour. Smell is dark roasty malt. Actually has some body to it! Although it could be richer, it was overly thin, and had a nice roasty coffee flavor to it. Hint of alcohol, however that didn’t help, but didn’t kill it either. Some bitterness in the finish and all around their best beer that I’ve tried. Worth a try.

Dec 5, 2007 2007 PP SAF: Opaque with long lasting head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate, walnut, leather, plum, prune, and molasses esters. The taste has a rich malty profile with some twangy dark fruits. Earthy, smoky and woody as well. The mouth feel is oily and smooth with a chalky finish. Really solid stuff that I would try again.

Dec 2, 2007 Updated: Dec 3, 2007Draught into shaker at the brewery. Dark, opaque brown colour with a thin tan head and nice stair-step lacing. Aroma is bittersweet chocolate and a little molasses. The flavour is fantastic with more dusty chocolate and warming alcohol. The 8.9 ABV is well hidden until the finish, but it does add up. Very enjoyable IP stout and I look forward to trying other brews here based on this beer. I’d love to share this beer but currently not available in any form (bottles or growlers) other than draught at the brewery.
