Aroma has notes of caramel, malt, licorice, raisin and other dark dried fruit, ripe fruit, brandy, and faded hops. Pours a deep red amber with a small khaki head that mostly diminished. Flavor is sweet and sticky raisin and other dark dried fruit, malt, licorice, caramel, ripe fruit. Nice spicy bitter finish. Palate is full bodied and oily soft. Just a fantastic beer that has aged very well. Has all the character of an aged barley wine. Just lovely. Would like to try it fresh but would also like another one of these beauties. Pours a beautiful red amber color with a light head. Tastes of pine and citrus with undertones of coffee. The bitterness is awesome, a nice hoppy ale. Very good brew. changeup45 (798), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2008 Bottle says Monster 2007 Beer Tour. Pours a dark brown, amber tinted color with a decent head that settles down a bit. There’s still some frothy lacing on the glass throughout the beer but nothing special. The aroma is fruity hops with a touch of candy and brown sugar. The flavor starts with a initial quick sugary malt note then turns to a dark fruity hop bite but it’s somewhat mild. Imperial IPA? Hell no. Let’s just call it Hoppy Monster. Uhhh, nah, that still doesn’t sound right. Little or semi hoppy monster. The hops really don’t bite hard here and there’s more of a hop/malt balance than other Imperial IPA’s. Or even IPA’s. Anyways, this beer really is pretty good and I enjoyed it but by no means is it a "Big Hoppy Monster". LOL! nimbleprop (929), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 5, 2008 Snagged this one in a trade with unclemattie. Thanks Matt! This beer looks awesome. Opaque, thick, deep copper amber color with a thin white head. Smells very sweet, caramel, candy and toffee. Also plenty of milder citrus, orange and flowers. Flavor is also very sweet, chewy grains, candy, caramel, some biscuit with only mild citrus. Heavy mouthfeel, syrupy with a balanced finish mixing sweet candy and slight citrus bitterness. Despite the heavy malts and alcohol, this was very drinkable. I enjoyed this alot. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA

Big aroma of caramel, pine, and citrus. Initial taste of caramel, flowing through hoppy notes of pine and grapefruit to a lasting bitter alcohol finish. Thick mouthfeel. Generally pretty sweet with good balance. Pretty dark for a double IPA, really tastes more like an American Strong. RCL (1484), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Bottle of the 2007. Not super hoppy. Super rich malts perfectly balanced with clean, fruity hops. Lightly sweet without being cloying at all. Great stuff. deftim13 (103), California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark red with a off white two finger head. Smell is nice floral hoppy with a sweet caramel malt. Taste is same with a nice bready note. Carbonation is high but not over done. Not a hop bomb as the name says but still tasty. beerbill (1968), Laurel, New York, USA
