Commercial Description:
This mammoth imperial red ale leads with a tantalizing hop aroma that is quickly complemented by an enormous malt backbone. Finishing with a multitude of hoppy goodness, this “Monster Beer” is truly not for the faint at heart.

Poured dark amber with fluffy tan head. Aroma of caramel malt. Big sweet malty taste with an alcohol finish. Drinkable but why past its prime. I need a fresh one then I’ll rerate.

Thanks to my 1st secret santa MIBromeo. Pours a dark clear red-brown with a yellowish head. Some lacings. Strong hops aroma, lots of grape fruit. Powerfull (because it needs to be) malty/caramel back bone. Full bodied. Medium carbonation. Nice long hoppy finish bitter with grtape fruit aroma.

2006 vintage. Dark and cloudy reddish-brown body. Some sediment reveals itself as the glass empties. Big, rocky off-white head that settles to a thin film. Thick, patchy lacing lines the glass. The aroma is big and malty, with ample amounts of nearly-burnt caramel, and slightly piney, citrus hops. The flavor is again very malty, with caramel playing a huge role, as well as toasted bread and citrus hops. The taste was mildly astringent, though this bottle might be a little past its time. Medium body that was a little sticky, though not overly cloying. Relatively smooth, save for the astringency issue. Very good beer that I think would be even better when completely fresh. I’ll re-rate this one when the 2007 comes out.

Bottle pours a little cloudy, almost clear but looks great. Dark amber with shades of bright red. Aroma of strong perfume hops. Should be made into a cologne. Taste is Rich like a bock. 2006 series very malty and strong, great balance with the wonderful hops. Delicious and sweet, a little creamy and finishes nicely.

Vintage: 2005
Appearance: clear dark red, thin tan head, nice drippy lace
Aroma: huge sweet carmel malt aroma with strong earthy hops
Flavor: strong hop flavor and bitterness, almost balanced by the big malt backbone, great hops and great malt, but just not my perferred hop varieties

Aroma: 8/10; Appearance: 8/10; Flavor: 6/10; Palate: 7/10; Overall: 13/20

Vintage: 2006
Aroma: the 2005 has the rich carmel malt aroma with strong earthy hops, the 2006 aroma is much lighter in both malt and hops
Flavor: 2006 has nice balanced carmel malt flavor with the hops, even though oxidized the 2005 still has a stronger earthy hop flavor and a bit more sweetness where the 2006 is quite dry, body on the 2006 might be a bit thinner as well, overall I prefer the 2006 because of the toned down hop flavor

Bottle acquired in trade with CaptainCougar - thanks, man! Wow, I was expecting a great beer, but this was excellent. Pours murky chestnut brown with a creamy, sticky tan head. Nose of sweet bready malt, caramel, and maybe just a touch of anise accompanies aromatic citric hops. Flavor is sublimely balanced, but surprisingly on the sweet side, with a caramel-laced fruitiness balanced by grapefruit in the finish. I finished my only bottle far too quickly, it is gone now, and I am sad.
