Commercial Description:
This mammoth imperial red ale leads with a tantalizing hop aroma that is quickly complemented by an enormous malt backbone. Finishing with a multitude of hoppy goodness, this “Monster Beer” is truly not for the faint at heart.

Bottle. Light orange-pineapple hops aroma. Dark red-brown color with small head. Sweet pineapple-orange hops and light malt - hop flavor not ovewhelming. A great I2PA where the hops don’t totally take over the beer.

WHOA!!! They aren’t kdding about the hops. This came from the tap with a reddish brown color with off-white head that lingered long and produced good lacing. Extremely hoppy aroma, and the taste is more of the same: bitter hops, almost to the point that they overwhelm any other real flavor. Palate was dry and bitter, as expected. I am a big fan of hopped up beers, and really enjoyed this, but must admit that this even pushed my upper hop limit. Good job, boys from Athens!!

Pours dark red with a good foam head. Aroma is nice and hoppy with alot of sugar malt. Flavor is a bit stingy, like soap, not great but still good.

Bought at Frugal MacDoogal’s in Nashville. $7.99 a sixer. Sampled at the Fall Crawl 2006 (our camping trip). Pours a dark red with an average sized head. Aroma and flavor is of big hops and a nice amount of malts. Also hints of pineapple, grapefruit. Good stuff.

Bottle courtesy of Goldtwins, thanks again Larry! Deep mahogany pour witha light creamy tan head. Sweet malt, pine, citurs, with some booze pretty much makes up the warm spicy aroma...some rye in their as well...sorta bready. A steady mix of booze, bitter hops and sweet malt makes up the flavor...some good bite to it although at times the booze tastes a bit medicinal. Sweet and malty in the front with the big hop punch hitting in the back with a sticky, soapy, bitter finish...which is also where the medicinal aspects come in. Pretty decent brew overall, but the alcohol seems to come out a bit more than the hop and malt elements...seems a little hot. Though some of the booze seems to tame as it warms a bit and the malt comes out a bit more. Makes me wonder how the 6% version differed.

Bottle, from Raleigh WholeFoods. Real good nose. Bittersweet, Lots of fruits, orange, grapefruit, peach/apricot, little yeasty nuttiness, some caramel. Clean reddish bown color, small but solid head, nice lace. Bittersweet flavor, Like aroma, but citrus bitterness is dominant. Other fruit is lost. Caramel & nut in background. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. Tasty, too bad the peachy/apricot fruitness disappeared in flavor. I also had a 2005 version of this that I scored 6/4/6/4/12. It lost it’s fruitiness and is bit oxidized. Was a hazed brownish orabge color, small head and no lace. Bitter flavor, little leathery, sour, oxidized. A sourness on the tongue stays behind. Another reason I don’t hold onto big hoppy beers.

Bottle. Thx TURD. Aroma popping with hops, screaming cascades with a tinge of caramel. Poured a rubyish amber. Flavor is just yummy very well balanced hop load with just the right combination of malts, subtle dashes of citrus and pine. Palate was nice medium fullness to it. Overall damn good. Terrapins monsters are just delightful, please send to PA.

another one from shag that’s like a year old. but he tried and that’s all that matters. the color was nice. an amber with ruby highlights. floral hop nose. even though this is a bit old, i can still taste the potential in this. the hops are flavorful with just a slight bite. i did enjoy this beer though and i’ll have to look for it when it’s all out fresh
