Commercial Description:
This mammoth imperial red ale leads with a tantalizing hop aroma that is quickly complemented by an enormous malt backbone. Finishing with a multitude of hoppy goodness, this “Monster Beer” is truly not for the faint at heart.

A hazy amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is super hoppy combined with ligth notes of caramel, while the flavor is sweet with strong notes of both caramel and hops. A nice hoppy monster.

Thanks to SpringsLicker for this 12 oz bottle! Poured a great deep ruby with a fizzy off-white head. Spicy aroma with some citrus and malty notes. Flavor is hoppy with some caramel and citrus notes. Good malty backbone almost bodering on a barleywine. The name seemed a bit misleading as I was expecting a brutal hop attack on my palate. Great beer noththeless. Thanks again Jay!

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering ’06. Bottle. Lovely aroma: hops and molasses. No visible carbonation. Clear, dark, body with an off-white head. Beautiful appearance. Neither big nor hoppy, nor monstrous. So, this brew is a bit of a product of marketing. However it does have a nice flavor. Not as rich or alcoholic as I would have guessed from the name. If you are going to go out on a limb with a name like that, you better back it up. At least it’s a quality product.

Bottled. Via trade with TheBeerCellar2. Pours a clear, garnet color of red with a dark ivory colored head. Sweet, malty aroma with a huge hop presense. Also a bit of dark fruit notes and honey. It smells like a Barley Wine. Bitter and sweet flavor with more honey and some plums. Astringent, bitter aftertaste. Pretty tame for a double really. I’ve been very impressed with the Terrapin beers I’ve recieved thus far in trades- these are good beers.

Pours brownish red with a thin head that fades. Aroma is deep caramel , sticky pine, with some citrus in the back. Flavor is of deep caramel blended nicely with pine and mild citrus. Slight big sugar/oxidized tint in the flavor. Aftertaste is a slowly building bitterness with caramel and toasty malt behind. Medium body with a ever so slightly syrupy palate that thins on the finish.

Thanks CaptainCougar for this excellent brew! Nice reddish-brown body with a light tan head. Good malty aroma, sweet... not what I’d normally expect from a IIPA, but good still. Very nice body, taste is very typical from an IIPA. Nice bitter accents from the hops, clean body overall. Nice cool ending.
