Bottle. Dark copper pour. Short tan head. Aroma is strong malt and caramel notes with spicy hops, citrus fruits and light pine. Taste is big malt and caramel with citrus peel, grapefruit juice and light pine. Spicy hop notes also come through in this. Body is medium-full with a bubbly, moderate carbonation. Ends with more caramel, light toffee, sweet, chewy malt, grapefruit, orange peel and spicy hops. Nicely rounded Imperial IPA.

Dec 8, 2009 Bottle via trade thanks to PALMEJ1 on BA. I see my buddy Ben just rated this beer - what a coincidence. Or not. I guess both of us probably drink way too much beer. Pours a cloudy reddish-brown color with a large, creamy beige head that really lasts, leaving good lacing. Aroma is caramel malt, herbs, black tea, citrusy and resinous hops, and booze. Flavor is a no joke imperial red ale. Loads of caramel malt, earth, herbal notes, biscuit malt, and a citrusy, resinous hop finish. Medium-bodied, fairly syrupy, with a tiny bit of booze. Overall a very nice beer.

Aroma: Nose starts off quite hot, beyond that I got some resiny hops, some caramel, and some citrus hops
Appearance: Pours a dark brownish-red color with a thin off-white head that leaves just a few spots of lace
Flavor: Taste is medium-heavy hoppy bitterness up-front with a big malt backbone that almost balances it
Palate: The ABV is quite well-hidden considering the nose in this full bodied, smooth, highly drinkable brew
Overall Impression:
The nose would make you think you were stepping into a barleywine or something, since it is quite hot, but the beer itself tastes much balanced, and the alcohol is pretty well hidden. It is interesting, I’m not sure I can recall another beer with so much booze on the nose that drinks so smoothly and hides its ABV so well. Anyway, this is really what I took away most from this one, but it is quite a nice beer, one I would certainly be happy to enjoy again.

Dec 3, 2009 2009 Bottle - Thanks kiefdog! Pours a deep and thick ruddy brown with a small tan head...aroma is sweet and citrusy, caramel...flavour is sticky and tasty, grapefruit and rich malt, biscuit and grain...finish is a lingering malty mouthful...very tasty...

Dec 3, 2009 It has big hop notes on the nose after pouring dark amber. The bitterness and alcohol blend in nicely to mute the high abv. It has a nice deep bitterness with citrus peel notes that finish long with a complex note.

Nov 29, 2009 Bottle into pint glass. Bought this as a single because I needed one more to finish of a mixed six pack, and I thought the bottle was fun. WOW, am I glad I did! I really like this one. Pours cloudy mahogany color with about a one finger head. Aroma is nice, fruity, and I think a little caramel. Has a lot of hops that hit you, then you get the malts, and finishes with a great hoppy finish. Really great beer.

Nov 28, 2009 whooooaa....nice evil red lookin guy starin at me. Easy to drink yet super potent and tooth coatingly fabulous. roasted caramel, vanilla and even some almond get freaky with some powerful pined out hop backbone and they engage themselves in some old fashioned brew mixery for some well balanced and complex tastiness. Very well executed

Nov 27, 2009 Pours a dark, opaque, slightly reddish brown, almost mahogany, with a thick and fine-bubbled pale tan head. Hoppy aroma has just a hint of cloves. Flavor is quite hoppy but not too bitter, rather lip-smacking, with a spicy hint. Texture is tingly, fizzy and lively and leaves a pleasantly hoppy finish.

Nov 27, 2009 Bottle thx to lbrew2or3. Dark murky amber coloured. Huge light brown head. Spruce, fruits, caramel, spice, herbs, light fruits and flowers in the aroma. Flavour of pine, spice, grape, light caramel, herbs and flowers. Medium to full bodied. Dry herbal bitterness in the end.
