Commercial Description:
“With its golden hue and gentle complexity, the Terrapin Golden Ale brings refreshing to a whole new level. Its combination of flavor, smoothness and drinkability is difficult to find in most craft beers. Sometimes even hopheads like us want nothing more than to enjoy a beer that is crisp, smooth and refreshing. That is why we created the perfect session beer - the Terrapin Golden Ale.”

Pours a clear light golden with a small white head that recedes to a ring and a small swirl of bubbles on top with a constant stream of bubbles from the bottom. Aroma is very mild and dominated by light toasted bready malts with hints of other light grains and maybe some hops. The taste is slightly better with toasted malts and a light fruitiness that was not evident in the aroma. The finish is slightly dry. The mouthfeel is fairly light with lots of carbonation. This is a good cream ale and the most approachable beer that Terrapin makes for non-craft beer folks. Still, my least favorite of their year-rounds.

Reviewed 1/29/2009 (bottle BB Month 10 Week 4): Pours a very clear golden colored body with a small creamy white head. Very dusty pilsner malty aroma. Nuttiness too. Grainy wheaty taste. Musty dustiness. Some nuttiness. Okay, refreshing. Not my style.

Bottle. Pours clear gold, white head. Aroma is corn, malt, sugary, some hops bitterness. Flavor is malty sweet, sugary whipped cream. Uh, not my thing.

Yeah. Not so good. Nothing memorable. Smooth, with little faults, but nothing sticks out. Stick with the rye pale ale.

Pours with a white head that vanishes very quickly. The color of this beer is lighter than shown in the picture, golden orange. Aroma of sweet malt, slight hint of a smell similar to sour diesel. Flavor is a simple malt, i like the crisp bite of the beer on the palate. Nothing to write home about but this beer does what it is trying to do well - good session brew, i could drink alot of them.

12oz. Bottle: Faint aroma of crystal malts, grassy hops, and caramel. Poured golden in color with a small, fizzy, white head that disappeared. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of sweet malts, corn, and grains. Light to medium body. Slightly sticky, thin texture. Average carbonation. Sweet, malt and corn finish.

12oz bottle. Pours a white head with a deep golden body. Smells like malt with a hint of grass. Clean malty flavor. Clean medium body finish. Good session beer.

This rating is averaged from from two bottles in the same mix-pack. Golden as promised, teeming with weightless motes. Fleeting soapsud head. The first bottle exhibited a toasty/grainy nose, redolent with "mixed fruit" jelly and sultanas… and a huge bucket of briney steamed oysters. Second bottle smelt of diacetyl, salt, and lychee. Bottle one: minerally flavor, corn, buttered white bread, some blackberry... pretty bland. Bottle two was similar, with richer malt and also a soapy taste. Both were surprisingly full-bodied and gritty... the second had a much tarter finish and aftertaste. Although nothing was drastically wrong with either bottle, nothing excited me... I am neutral about bottle two, but bottle one was downright yucky.
