Pretty good head retention and nice lacing. Aroma is a mix of malts and piney hops and is an overall decent scent. At first I thought this beer tasted a little empty but it really was a pretty good beer, nuts, malts, nice bitter piney hop bite. Solid and a pretty good representation of a hoppy Brown Ale. glkaiser (1172), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 30, 2009 Bottle from someone paying up in our RB fantasy football league; thanks, guys. Dark brown w/ thin head. Mix of lightly roasted malt and citrus in the aroma. The roasted malt falls a bit short and really doesn’t add much more than a little sweetness, but the hops are bright and enjoyable. Good, but I’d rather just have an IPA. blankboy (3250), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Bottle (12oz) courtesy of MrFacto. Pours a deep ruby with orange hues and a small diminishing off-white head. Nice malty aroma along with chocolate, a good amount of hops and some nuts -- it smells great! Flavour of lightly roasted malt, nuts, chocolate and again, a good amount of hops -- it works really well. Light bitter finish. Medium bodied. Creamy mouthfeel. This is a fantastic beer and definitely one of the best ’Brown Ales’ I’ve ever had -- Terrapin rocks! michael-pollack (2728), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 28, 2009 12oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, citrus, brown sugar, malts, toasting, and caramel. Poured mahogany/brown/ruby in color with a small, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Not sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of hops, citrus, pine, malts, caramel, toasting, and slight nuts. Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Hoppy, malty, boring finish. ucfknightscott (46), Casselberry, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 28, 2009 Pours a cloudy brown with a thin white head. Aroma is very hoppy for a brown ale, kinda nutty too. Drinks like an IPA with a malty, roasty presence. Very unique, probably the hoppiest brown ale I’ve ever tried. Not bad, very drinkable. kramer (2495), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2009 On tap, at Redlight Redlight. Pours a clear brown body with a small off-white head. Very hoppy and inviting nose with a little grainy and nutty malt. The flavor is pretty hoppy with moderate bitterness, the Brown Ale comes out nicely on the back end with nutty and toasty grains. Medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice beer. I want more of these IPA/Brown Ale hybrids. JustinFromAL (114), Birmingham, Alabama, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours a nice dark reddish brown with a one finger beige head. Nice hoppy nose with some depth behind it. Caramel. Taste starts like a brown ale then the hops "pop" out at you. I really, really, enjoyed this beer! tennessejed420 (98), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Pours beige / khaki head that lingers but not for too long. Aroma of hops with a faint sweetness. Hits the palette slightly syrupy with the sweet, toffee / caramel like malts present first and then the hops following soon after. Aftertaste an equilibrium of the two. Color is like a very dark maroon, dark brown with a reddish hue.
