Commercial Description:
"India Style Brown Ale - 6% ABV. A head on collision of a hoppy, west coast IPA and a complex, malty brown ale...basically an IPA with a roasty backbone.”

bottle thanks to thebeercellar. deep brown pour almost black with a thin ring of cream froth. lots of brown sugar, molasses and malts on the nose. slight chocolate/malty flavor in the finish but not much for anything else.

12oz from Sam’s, Durham. A nice entry in a style that’s growing on me. Deep hued brown pour with a moderate head, this one’s got a less aggressive nose than I expected. Roasts certainly outweigh the hops in the aroma, though there’s balance in the flavor. Body’s a bit thin, finish a bit watery, but very solid overall.

Sublte hop aroma. This hop aroma is pretty good. It balances extremely well with the extra sweet malt aroma. I love the fact that Terrapin has actually accomplished the task of brewing a well balanced IPA with both a hop and malt aroma. The only problem I have with the aroma is that the malt aroma slightly wins. I don’t like that fact that in an IPA there is slightly more of a malt smell than a hop smell, but nonetheless the hops and malts are balanced well in the aroma. The beer has a nice long lasting head. The beer is pretty much opaque. Has a nice brown and sort of reddish hue to it. Looks pretty pretty pretty good. There is an awesome toasted malt flavor in the beer. The malts are very tasty. The balance of malts and hops are in the flavor as well. There is a great bittering hop in the beer, but the flavoring hop is lacking. The beer has the tendency to lean towards a Scottish Ale. I taste the toasted malts and slight hop flavors. I wish there were more hops in the beer. The beer is smooth, but a wee bit watered down. A very tasty brew that has an awesome balance of malts and hops. I am just glad I was finally able to try this brew.

Dark brown pour fluffy off white head and excellent lace. Roast and citrus on the nose. Very interesting beer. Medium bodied. Flavor full of hops, some roast and some hazelnut. Slightly bitter finish.

Pours a very dark brown with a white head. The flavor is that of a hoppy IPA, with the taste of malts as well. Overall good flavor. Not long lasting and good crisp taste for a dark IPA. Good brew.

12oz via GAManiac. Shared with my gf cyn. pours copper/amber with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is hoppy. Taste is nicely hopped with a kicking malt back end. This is a cool hybrid.

12 oz. Deep garnet-brown with a medium-sized lasting head. Nice mix of grapefruit, molasses and resin aromas. Front flavors of earthy molasses, chocolate and slightly sour orange. The finish turns more dirty-earthy: leaf, resin, wood and sweet toasted nut. Medium body is almost smooth, has a slight tongue tingle and finishes dryish.

On tap at the Brick Store in Decatur; poured a dark brown/auburn with a long lasting and creamy head. Aroma of roasted malt with an out of place grassy and citrus presence. Flavor of roasted malt with an IPA bitterness in the finish. While the flavor was not too strong, it was a little offputting. I found that the darker elements and the IPA elements did not mesh too well.
