There was good carbonation and some bubbles could be seen rising in the glass despite the dark color. The head was tall, foamy and light brown in color and left a good amount of lacing. The aroma was a good roasted sweet malty one with hints of toffee and light chocolate. The initial taste was on the lightly dry side. There was more roasted chocolate malt flavor in the taste and a good hop finish that also was on the slightly dry side. Tasted along the lines of an English Brown Ale. Very nice beer Boutip (2380), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 24, 2009 Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of molasses and strong caramel malt with a clean bitter finish. Taste is also characterized by strong caramel and molasses malt with a dry bitter hoppy finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Interesting take on the style with more malt then expected but less hops then I had hoped for. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2009 Grainy bready malt aroma with hint of fruity notes. Clear dark amber with small off-white head. Roasty, nutty, molasses and some sourness with hop flavor fighting to come through. Finish is dry and moderately bitter. I’d classify as a hoppy American brown rather than an IPA. radagast83 (1314), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 11, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown color that shines with a redish hue when held up to the light. Small, light tan head. Tasty aroma of hops with some heavily roasted dark malts. The hoppiness overly dominated the sweeter roasted malts in the flavor leaving this a bit off balance.
