Commercial Description:
Terrapin Midnight Project Brew Two 2009. Sometime around midnight in a city nobody can agree on, the idea for Terrapin and Left Hand to brew a collaboration beer was born. Depth Charge is the second in the series of one-time releases between the two breweries. Be wary of the calm before the storm. This creamy, deeply delicious milk stout will seduce you into submission while the explosion of hand roasted gourmet espresso will blow you into next week. We Shall Drink in the breweries. We Shall Drink in the pubs, We Shall Drink the the comfort of our homes. We Shall Never Surrender.

On draft at The Porter. Delivered without any real head, color is extreme dark brown. Nose is heavily of coffee, roasted espresso. Seriously have never smelled a beer that smelled so much like a cup of coffee. Undertones of dark chocolate, hint of vanilla, toffee, and warm, almost burnt, milk. Full on Coffee flavor hits you up front, then makes way for chocolate bitterness, vanilla. Sort of like if an espresso and hot chocolate had an alcoholic love child. Body is lighter than I expected for this sort of beer. Unique and delicious (even for someone who is not a big fan of coffee). Goes great with chocolate dessert, which really brings out vanilla flavors.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of coffee grounds mostly, some rich roasted malt too. Flavor is balanced between the roasted malt and espresso notes. Very rich and hearty for a 6.5% brew. Super smooth palate. Overall, a solid milk stout. 8/4/8/4/16 [4.0/5]

Pours black with tan head. Big espresso aroma with chocolate. Flavors of sweet milk chocolate with coffee and roasted malts. Medium to full body with mild carbonation. A very good brew.

The Dan Journal #320. Tasted 12/16/09. 22oz bomber. Pitch dark hue with a moldy khaki head. Faint aromas but totally coffee. Full bodied and super smooth. Good malty flavors with a big hint of cola. Milky smooth, but offset with the coffee astringency and bitterness. Great collaboration and totallt tasty!

I enjoyed this more then I feel my rating lets on. Great coffee character mixed with a ncie milky chocolatness. A little thin, that never really wows you but at the same time is very conistently tasty from pour to finish. Some nice notes of espresso, a good hoppiness, and all so smooth. Very nice. Another treat from secret santa 09.

Bottle via trade thanks to PALMEJ1 on BeerAdvocate. Pours darkest brown with a one finger tan head and decent retention. Aroma is espresso with cream, roast, and chocolate. Coffee notes predominate. Flavor is mild roast and loads of coffee with cream, along with some milk chocolate. This is a really, really coffee-loaded beer. Not recommended if you’re planning to go to sleep right after. This will get you wired. Medium body, not as quite creamy as I expected. A little coffee astringency, but not more than it should be. Drinkability is pretty high.

Draft at Kingpins. This is a nice, full flavored stout without being overpowering. One that isn’t watered down, but also one that feels like you could have 2 or three without feeling bloated. Nice.
