| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 22, 2009 Tap @ Brick Store. I’m a sucker for Rye anything. Creamy and sweet, with moderate hoppy nose but light bitterness, the malt is what stands out in this one. beerlud (22), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2009 Nice pale color. Decent head, and lacing. Big hoppy aroma and sweet malty nose! Piney, fresh everygreens, citrus, high alpha! Great nose! Flavor of the hops is bitter and metallic. Ok balance between the two. But burping up the hops is great! Sorry of that’s gross. danielcurtis81 (906), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 18, 2009 Bottle via with oobawa. 2008 samples 3/18/09. Pours a strong amber with some scarce flowing bubbles and a thing beige head. Nose is malty and sweet citrus more of an aged hop. Taste sweet malts, some nice rye, toffee, and caramel. I dig the aged taste of some of these DIPAs but am always curious to do a side by side but never get a chance. I am sure it is a much different beer. Mouth is smooth is a foint bitterness to it. The sweetness pulls away for the bitterness. Real good but not a hop bomb, at least not with a year on it. SudsMcDuff (1693), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 9, 2009 Rating #200! ~ Many thanks to illinismitty for this beer. I saved it just for this milestone... -- 10/24/2006: Pours a beautiful deep orange/copper color (cloudy) with a one finger thick, creamy light yellow head. This turtle looks thick and so good! I just want to dive in, but first I need to enjoy the aroma which is fruity (citrus) and sweet with hints of pine. Initially the flavor is sweet, malty, a little fruity, and hints of pine/resin. Then the rye comes through as it heads into the finish. The finish is nicely balanced between sweet grapefruit hoppiness and the dry rye. Flavor is great without going too over the top. The alcohol is nearly invisible except for a bit in the finish. This brew is quite full on the palate. The mouthfeel is thick without being too syrupy. Another awesome rye beer (I think any beer with rye will make it to the top of my list!). This is an fantastic Imperial Pale Ale! Terrapin obviously knows the difference between a pale ale and an IPA. When is Terrapin going to make it into Ohio for distribution?! ~ 12 fl oz bottle (2006, 8.5% alcohol). Thanks again Sean! Rating: 8/3/8/4/17=4. ***** Update on 11/18/2008: Monster Beer Tour 2006 -- Terrapin Rye Squared Imperial Pale Ale is a dirty brownish gold color that reminds me of apple flesh after it has been sitting too long. There is also quite a bit of yeast sediment sediment in it. There isn’t much carbonation left, but a dark beige crown does manage to form after the poor, but it quickly disappears. The aroma is bitter sweet with what is obviously aging hops. I would describe it as bitter orange peel combined with sweet, toffee maltiness. Its still quite appealing, but that is probably subject to some debate is a don’t mind a good pale ales/IPA that has aged into a barleywine-style beer... Anyways, the flavor is also still great. There is quite a bit of sweet and sticky caramel and toffee maltiness that is followed up by candied citrus hops and then that great rye fruity/spicy/dryness through the finish. Linging dried apricot flavor on the tongue. The mouthfeel is smooth and somewhat thick as there really isn’t any carbonation left to lift it up and so the full weight of the medium-full body can be felt. I love this beer. It is so flavorful and drinkable and packs a high, yet invisible alcohol content. Hopefully I can get more of this the next time it is released... ~ 12 fl. oz. bottle (ALC./VOL. 8.5%, Best if enjoyed before 28806FY) mostly likely from illinismitty. Thanks Sean! Rating: 8/3/8/4/17=3.9. ***** UPDATE on 11/18/2008: Monster Beer Tour 2007 -- What a difference a year can make... Compared to the 2006, this 2007 bottle of Terrapin Rye Squared has a much different appearance. It has a hazy/mostly clear golden amber color (like darker honey) with a thin, but present frothy beige crown that sits on top for quite awhile. A moderate level of carbonation releases the wonderful caramel/toffee and rye malt sweetness and spicy along with hints of citrus and pine hops. This beer is still has a medium-full body, but feels much lighter and open on the palate due to the carbonation. It glides down effortlessly and perhaps far too quickly and easily! The flavor is more pronounced and showcases the rye more as well as having an edge of alcohol. Lots of toffee maltiness is balanced by evident spicy and dry rye malt as well as just the right amount of slightly aged grapefruit and pine hop flavor and bitterness. Awesome! Unfortunately, this is my last bottle of Rye Squared, so I need more ASAP. I could live on this stuff! ~ 12 fl. oz. bottle (ALC./VOL. 8.5%, Best if enjoyed before 28806FY) from illinismitty. You’re the best man! Rating: 8/4/9/4/18=4.3. curly (614), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

The finish leaves a sticky bitterness that I did not care for. kiefdog (1624), Tampa, Florida, USA
