Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

Bottle poured into a pint glass produced a good two fingers worth of head on top of a amber body. The head trailed off to a thick lace that stuck around Aromas of sweet toasty malts and piney rye with a slight wiff of hops filled my nose Kind of sweet and malty for a pale ale. You get the rye spiciness with a nice light bitter in the end but very malt forward medium mouthfeel with enough carbonation to keep your tongue refreshed Very drinkable brew I could see myself sucking down a few of these and feeling quite happy

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a thin loose white head. Nice sharp floral hop aroma over the rye maltiness mixes nicely. Just a tad of alcohol on the nose. Nice thick sticky palate. The flavor has a citric hop start with the hops tingling on the palate throughout. The rye character gives the beer some heft and prevents the high alcohol content from taking over, which seems to dominate the few "double pales" I’ve had. A good strong ale with some hops, but I wouldn’t pigeonhole it into the DIPA category necessarily.

Bottle courtesy of Stfun. Pours deep ruddy brown with a thin creamy head and nice lacing. The nose is malty sweet and some summer fruit with pineapple. The flavor is similar, with more caramel malt standing out in the front, an earthy mid and nice bitter hop finish. Nice.

Pours dark copper with little head or carbonation. The aroma is great it matches all the tastes through the beer and is a good representation. The end tastes a little mettallic and doesn’t pack the power of the other imperials that i enjoy.
