Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

12oz. bottle. Spicy, citric, fruity and hoppy aroma, some pine and lightly toasted malt, with notes of dark brown sugar, rye, cedar and very faint doughy yeast. Translucent medium copper color with a lasting off-white head. Flavor profile is very nicely balanced, with a generous dosage of hop flavor and bitterness, nicely accenting spicy, citric grainy touches from the rye and plenty of toasty malt sweetness, along with a touch of peppery alcoholic warmth and faint esters. Finishes with a big punch of bitterness and hop spice. Palate is smooth, creamy and effervescent, body is nicely full. This is quite tasty and drinkable, definitely recommended. Thanks a bunch to Greg!

Bottle pours hazy copper with thin wihte head. Aroma is sweet and hops. First taste is malt then hops bitterness takes over. There is a bitter finish, but good clean, crisp beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a murky brownish-red/amber color with a good off-white, frothy head. Aroma is of toasted malts, grain and moderately hoppy with flowers and citrus (maybe grapefruit?). Taste is sweet malts with a nice bitter hoppy finish. Good medium body, can taste a bit of the alcohol at the end and astringent from the hops. Good beer.

From bottle : Pours a hazy amber color, with a thin, maybe half finger of white foamy head. Little lacing. Nose is lots of malt, and some grain smells. Taste is sweet malts and some hops, the aftertaste has a good amount of hop tastes. It is kinda a sticky ending. Medium thickness with a sticky feel going down. It is ok, but not my favorite.

12 oz. bottle thanks to a trade with GAManiac. Pours a cloudy amber with a moderate off-white head that lasted until the end of the glass and left a layer of lace with each sip. Really not much going on in the aroma department. There is a bit of rye and sweet malt, and both are weak. More flavorful than the aroma suggests with rye, sweet malt, a bit of brown sugar and some resinous pine all present. Nice chewy mouthfeel. Bitter, hoppy finish. Enjoyable.

Nice thick head, amber color. Hopy, matly, clear presence of barley and rye. Notice a subtle traces of spices, fruity (orange) and caramel. Thick on the palate. A great beer, get it while it’s on tour!

Awesome brew overall, tastes delicious and refreshing on tap. This brew pours a brilliant orange-copper colour very deep with a soft head that stays around for a while. nice lacing, and lots of fruit flavor. full astringent hops on the palate.
