Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

Nice amber color, very drinkable, taste of caramel throughout - feels very heavy - "oily" to quote polomagnifico. Slight bitter finish, but nothing I felt overly strong for the flavor. Would definitely buy again.

Big thanks to ucusty for this beauty. 12oz bottle 2008 vintage. Aroma has notes of pine, caramel, malt, bread, plum, and licorice. Hazy orange/brown hue with a large off-white head that mostly diminished but left decent lace. Flavor is sweet with raisin, malt, licorice, and piney hops. Starts sweet and transitions to a piney bitter finish. Palate is full bodied and oily soft. Not bad at first but this beer did not finish well. Finish lingers and pine resin hops do not balance the intense sweet maltiness, I’m curious as to the level of IBU’s this beer has. Not bad but not that good, great start but hard to finish.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a one finger lasting off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, pine, citrus, and floral hops. Taste is sweet malt, biscuits, spicy rye, caramel, and citrus hops. Medium full mouthfeel mith a moderate to strong amount of bitterness and warm but never hot alcohol. Very good.

Bottle from Crizay. Thanks dude!
Pours dark opaque reddish brown with a big lasting beige head in a tulip. Smell is much sweeter than expected with warm caramelly tones and very little if anything in the way of hops. Taste is alcoholic and caramel all the way. No real hop flavor and no big characteristic rye presence noticeable. Either an old bottle or not at all what I expected. Too hot for a double IPA, and no hop flavor at all. Not impressed...What happened here?

The aroma is very fitting for an IIPA. It’s got lots of Hops and just enough malt. The appearance is orange gold with a nice head. The flavor is bitter and sweet but overly so. The palate is smooth. Nice stuff!

vintage 2008 bottle from ucusty yet again... rich coppery brown pour with a soft frothy head. nice retention and rings of lacing. the aroma is mostly caramel with dominant piney hops, floral orange and earthy rye bread. the palate starts quite sweet and grainy like candy before hops and rye bitterness clean it up. some notes of earthy hops, seediness and rye are followed by a robust dry finish. medium body with a nice creamy texture and soft carbonation.
