Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

Bottle. Pours nice golden/copper orange color. decent 1 finger head. Nose is light hops, malt, rye, wood and lemon. taste is same with a light metalic finish and bready notes toward end. Rye is not as apparent in the taste. Mouthfeel is decent with a light carbonation. Overall a let down.

Sludgey, big oxidized citrus hop nose with chewy caramel. Why do all these Terrapins smell old as dirt? Has pineappley sweet esters with rich piney, earthy hops and a full-scale chewy maltiness. I have no idea what they’re trying to accomplish here.

Pours gold color with thin tan head. Tastes of malts and maybe grapefruit. Its good, but its probably my least favorite out of the Monster Terrapins!

On Draught @ Summits - Randall w/Palisades and straight up.... Great stuff, big persistent creamy head with lots of lacing. Reminiscent of a top IIPa from the Pac. Northwest. Awesome aromas of sweet malt and hops dominated by cascade. The palate disappoints a bit, it’s not as rich as it could be, however, all in all it’s my favorite Terrapin. Hats’ off to John and Spike. Great brew !

12oz bottle 2007 vintage courtesy of brentfeesh. Aroma of rye citrus vine with some wooded area arome found driving deer out of woods while hunting. Darker cooper body with decent head. Flavor was a good dose of rye bitterness with enough malt balance in the mix. Dry aftertaste and bitter little too much for me. Left me want a big glass of water. Not exactly a palate quencher more of a sesion beer.

Draught at Brick Store. Hops are not intense. As a rye, not as solid as Bear Republic but a very good beer nevertheless. Enjoyable.

Sampled at the Terrapin’s Side Project @ Bruisin’ Ales. Aroma of citrus, very flavorful beer. Notes of alcohol for sure. Pretty light head. This beer really packed a punch. Happy 200th

Sweet, intense, characterful nose of brown sugar and yum. Hazy earth tone brown. Rich rye malt character. Detectable alcohol and hoppy bite. Heavy, chewy, and fun. A really engaging beer!
