Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

bottle-Thanks Badgerben) Pours amber with a white head. Aroma consisted of bread with some hops as well. Taste was malty sweet with a touch of hops at the end, quite good.

[Bottle, thanks badgerben] Poured amber with a small white head. Very sweet with very little bitterness. Good body and smooth going down.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a thin loose white head. Nice sharp floral hop aroma over the rye maltiness mixes nicely. Just a tad of alcohol on the nose. Nice thick sticky palate. The flavor has a citric hop start with the hops tingling on the palate throughout. The rye character gives the beer some heft and prevents the high alcohol content from taking over, which seems to dominate the few "double pales" I’ve had. A good strong ale with some hops, but I wouldn’t pigeonhole it into the DIPA category necessarily.

Thanks to badgerben for sharing this brew. Pours a clear coppery amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head. Aroma of multi-grain malt with a strong rye presence, some grassy hops and a touch of butterscotch. Taste is medium syrupy bodied, lightly carbonated with flavors that matches its aroma scent with a touch of dry pine. Finish is almost like a dry barleywine, sweet with a solid bitter aftertaste.

Thanks to Brentfresh for the trade! Copper color with no head. Sweet grain aroma. Lots of sweet malt taste, a little rye and some Noble hop bitterness.

poured into a pint. pours a clear amber with plenty of carbonation. the head was slight and quick to dissipate. had a smooth sweet rye aroma. bitterness is there in the taste but not too much. a good drink, sweet, syrupy consistency, sticky aftertaste, and the 8.5 is well hidden. a great beer to grab.

bottle. a very well balanced IIPA... pours a deep golden/amber color with a 1/4" white head... solid hoppy aroma... nice hop offering on the palate... the bitterness comes through on the tip of the palate and finishes with a very good hoppy finish. overall this IIPA is a very good, but not great beer. Dependable and worth drinking.

12 oz. bottle from tjthresh (via pintocb). Pour is clear golden - amber with visible carbonation and a decent sized slightly off-white head. Aroma is fresh piney hops with a bit of a flowery smell. The taste reveals a lot of malt, and that certainly takes the front seat. The hops (piney and resinous) carry the middle through to a nice bitter finish. I got only the slightest whisp of rye in this one. The malt - hop transition was great in this one, though I found the palate was a bit watery.
