Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

Poured a reddish amber color with a white head. Aroma of sweet malt, hops, citrus, and alcohol. Taste was of sweet malt followed by a hoppy bitterness. More sweet than bitter.

Trade from Ross, thanks man! Pours a clear reddish amber color with very little head. Aroma is heavy amounts of caramel malt and earthy hops. Taste is very sweet with caramel malt, bit of earthy hops. IIPA??? Really? The character of this beer is screaming American Strong Ale to me. Oh well, it’s pretty decent, aside from being a bit syrupy. However, this has to be a ASA and not a IIPA.

Thanks to Ian for the four pack. Pours with almost no head and coppery color. A little bit of an apple sweetness in the nose. Lots of malt. Thick and tasty, not for the faint beer drinker. Not overpowering, but a really nice beer from a real good brewey.

Beautiful crystal clear red/amber with a sizable tan head. It smells like HOPS, apricots, and sour cherry. Round and fat on the palate with enough carbonation to keep it from being flabby. The flavors are orange, cough syrup cherry, almonds, and dough. Lightly sweet but enough bitterness to make you forget about it. The hops on the finish are fairly potent but not crisp like most IPAs. Good beer but I’m not fond the the cough syrup like taste.

12 ounce bottle from jasonmech77.
Pours and amber/red with a hardly notice able tannish head. Huge aroma of citrus rock candy with a nice rye kicker. The flavor is on the sweet side, but the hop flavor and bitterness cuts right through before the sweet becomes too much. Fairly thick palate. Really a great finish though. Big thanks for this one Jason.

Pours a bright, clear copper with a substantial and durable off white head. Nice lacing, and a thin layer of foam was still present at the end of the glass. Honey, spice, and orange peel aroma that is inviting. Slightly thick on the palate, but not sticky, and with a medium carbonation. Flavor presents a nice balance between a caramelsweetness and a spicy bitterness that leaves an enjoyably clean finish. This is a fine effort from Terrapin.

I’m still a beer novice, so I can’t tell the difference between a double IPA and regular IPA yet, but one thing is for sure, this beer is very good. Does anyone make a triple IPA....I’d like to try it.... Reddish orange color, fleeting head, alcohol well hidden. Very enjoyable...highly recommend this brew if you can get your hands on it.

Draught at Flying Saucer - Nashville. Pours copper with a spare off-white head, spare lacing, completely diminishing. Aroma is average malt (cookie, caramel), heavy hop (flowers, perfume), average yeast (sweat) with notes of pineapple. Medium body, sticky texture, flat carbonation, and a bitter finish. Moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness; caramel malt and perfume hop flavor.
