Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

Draught at Flying Saucer - Nashville. Pours copper with a spare off-white head, spare lacing, completely diminishing. Aroma is average malt (cookie, caramel), heavy hop (flowers, perfume), average yeast (sweat) with notes of pineapple. Medium body, sticky texture, flat carbonation, and a bitter finish. Moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness; caramel malt and perfume hop flavor.

Clear dark amber with smal head. Definitely one of the more balanced IIPAs I’ve had. I get more hops in the flavor than the aroma, but a nice thick sweetness dominates both the taste and aroma for the most part. Big hop bitterness at the end though. Finishes pretty warm. Pretty good, but not my preferred style of IIPA.

Bottle thanks to Shigadeyo. Poured a dark amber color with a small off white head. Aroma was sweet caramel with a load of mixed hops, some alcohol, rye and a bit of toastiness. The flavor had more of a caramel taste than hoppy taste. The finish was hoppy with a candy sweetness followed by a alcohol warmth.

Bottle. Thanks to moejuck and bgburdman9 for sending me this. Pours a deep orange body with nice head. Aroma is extremely hoppy with a nice candy essence. sweet flavor of a nice toned down citrus and with a malty backbone. Smooth, actually it is one of the smoothest IIPA’s I’ve ever had. Alcohol undetected.

I had this "over" Crystal hops, so that affected the taste, but I feel that I can give a fair judgment to this beer. Its beautiful dark amber-brown is very tempting, and the aroma is hoppy but not "piney." Taste is delightfully hoppy with minimal bitterness. Very pleasant to drink, this is a beer one should sip and savor.

Bottle, with many thanks to jimbowood for this one, pours a clear dark amber with a minimal head and lacing. Gentle aroma of pine, caramel, and citrusy fruits. Flavor is also pretty mild, but pleasant, with a slight hops bite that is quickly overtaken by some mellowing malts. This is a very quaffable beer that’s lighter on the palate, hides the alcohol very well, and is quite tasty, but not a hop bomb like you’d expect for this style.

I’ve been drinking this for a week now...here and there. It’s very good...but there’s something I can’t put my finger on that keeps me from thinking about it or REALLY desiring it....P.S.~ I had great fun on the forums for the past 2 days...and so did several others. For those of you that didn’t appreciate me.."What the fuck’s wrong with you?" LOL!!

The color was golden/orange and caramel. The head was off-white, fizzy, and creamy. The aroma was sweet, candy, peach, tart, and waxy. The flavor was bitter, alcohol, dry, and fruit. The palate had a hot bite. It was medium-bodied and well carbonated. The finish was warm.
