Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

via trade with goldtwins - gotta say at first taste i didnt think this was an imperial. the hops just werent present enough. i would love to talk about the aroma, but honestly im so congested from allergies i cant smell a thing. (im giving the aroma a 7 just because its a pretty average rating) doesnt mean i cant taste. a nice sweet maltiness dominates the brew. luckily, it isnt overpowering because the hops are present....but this seems more like a exaggeration of a british style IPA...no signs of the typical PNW hop flavors (grapefruit, pine, etc). the hops are milder in flavor, but still present. definitely not for the hopheads out there but a solid beer nonetheless

Bottle a long time ago from footbalm as an xtra. Pours a shimmery golden/orange color. No head. Alot of yeast left at the bottem of the bottle. The aroma was rich and malty with slight hop aroma. The taste was thick and sweet with earthy hop notes. As it warmed it took on a syrupy character but nothing too disturbing. Good beer, although I don’t think I can drink more than 2 in a row.

Bottle thanks to captain cougar. Pours a cloudy copper brown with orange hints and not much of a head and I poured this pretty vigorously. Pretty good lacing on the top of the glass. Aroma was a light citrus with a lot of caramel coming through. The flavor seemed pretty sweet and syrupy too with a descent hop presence and nice crisp rye finish. Felt great in my mouth. A little bitterness coming through. Pretty good but not as much hops as I expected for IIPA. Rerate: This second bottle was a lot more carbonated than the first. Had a pretty good hop flavor but there was a little too much alcohol for only 8.5%.

I really liked the first Rye brew I had and i really liked this second one. The only thing that was a little off was the smell. WHile it wasn’t bad it was jsut a little different. Maybe that’s just the squared rye. But the flavor and drinkability were both really great.

Barely a hiss as the cap comes off, pouring semi-translucent and buffed orange in color with an oily ice sulfite head on top and sandy shore etchings on the sides. Deep nose of nectar weaves through greasy papaya and grapefruit. Mango crush seeps into high cholesterol potatoes chips. Tangerines glean the nose into a husky cream cube along with a seafaring fruit crate trait. Flavor demonstrates its authority. Marmalade gets a spicy white rye interjection with some white crackled pepper hotness. Thick, big stuff. Spoiled orange jam seeps into brie bread. Cracked shells and unripe, shaven grapefruit rind. Sweet caramel rides on oat flakes on dried marmalade. Tempered hotness is met by a wonderfully assertive and balanced body. Dry sanded tongue and a scapula splice down the center. Spicy orange ginger cakes on rye. Vanilla, oranges and pine supplant caramel cubes while white pretzel rye rolls spicily sing their song long into the night. Thanks for the bottle, CaptainCougar!

Pours a light orange color. Very nice hops and citrus in the semll. Tastes of strong hops and a little fruit. Kind of powerful in the taste. Not sure I got the caramel as others have but I’ve had this one may times and always enjoy it. I believe this one is courtesy of Boboski. Thank you sir.

This pours an opaque amber/orange color. The aroma is of citrus, some caramel and candy sugar. The flavor is citrusy sweet with some hoppiness. I’d almost call it an American Strong Ale with a hoppy character. Very nice beer
