Commercial Description:
Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one! The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online. Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt. Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

Bottles thanks to ambergirl and captaincougar. Poured a hazy, fiery medium orange with a moderate cap of whitish head... left some intricate lacing. The nose was rich, with caramel and grapefruit meat, spicy rye, sweet, sweet candy, and pine. Flavor was most excellent... toffee, caramel, and some alcohol at the core with lots of rye, and pine bitterness pushing through the finish. Delectably-smooth on the palate with sharp and effective pine and citrus bitterness enhanced by alcohol at all the right places. Left this lips sticky, the stomach warm, and the body satisfied. Great beer!

Another great beer from one of my favorite brewers. This is Rye Pale Ale on steroids. The 8.5% doesn’t hurt either.

Bottle from bu11zeye. Aroma is very caramelly, a touch of hops, and very one dimensional. No rye noticed at all. Flavor is similar, pretty bland and one dimensional, no rye to be found. I’m quite dissappointed with this.

Bottle. Thanks to unclemattie! Pours a hazy orange color with a white head on top. Aroma is citrusy, pine, hops, rye malt, and sweet caramel. Flavor is sweet, fruity, full of hops and some grapefruit up front finishing off with the rye malt. Definitely a nice tasting beer! Quite easy on the palate, slightly syrupy but nothing near overboard. Wow, I love Terrapin!

I’ve had this beer many times and from a few different traders, beercellar2 and goldtwins come to mind, thanks guys. Finally rating it. Pours out a nice hazy hue of copper like a good ipa should. Citrus hops on the aroma with a trace amount of rye. Nice mouthfeel with a complex flavor. The rye adds a nice element to the beer the hop flavors and the rye malts are balanced very nicely, Solid beer

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 6 Oct) Amber colour with small off-white head. Fruity and sweet nose with notes of raisins, grapefruit and pine needles. Fruity, very sweet, taste with notes of pine needles, resin, grapefruit, raisins and prunes. Full body, rather short finish. Great taste, but definitely on the sweet side.

Many thanks to Goldtwins for the trade. Hazy orange body topped by a dense lasting off-white head. Lace is excellent. The aroma is more malty than with a typical IIPA, still loads of hops though. Flavor is bitter and sweet. Not a lot of hoppy juciness, more malts. Full bodied, almost chewy. Bitter from front to back. Needs more aromatics and hop juciness. Decent though.

Bottled. Golden colour, not much head. Aroma American hops, with clear Amarillo notes. Flavour is caramellish, flowery hops with hints of honey. Hops and rye in aftertaste.
