| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of Firemoose15. Really inviting looking beer. Nose is roasted malts and touches of citrus fruit (tangerine?) mixing with dark raisins and figs. Flavor is the dark malts upfront, and some sweetness from the rye and then a nice dose of hoppy grapefruit takes over. FInish is clean and the abv is well hidden. Nice beer - didn’t last long at all. Thanks, Mel! BREWMUSKCLES (1073), New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 2, 2009 dark burnt orange ale that is cloudy. strong malt taste with rye and a sour yeast note. hop flavor of grapefruit pith. a brew that has been put out there by other brewers and we always like it. nice malt and hop aroma. a straight up brew. coldmeat23 (233), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Pours a clear golden brown color with ruby highlights. One finger head of ultra-light brown foam. Retention is good. Lacing is nicely thick, but slightly slipperey.
Smells alomst barleywine like. Big sweet maltiness comes through. Big wheat notes. Definite presence of rye spiciness, along with citrus hoppiness.
Smells somewhat like peppered caramel.
Very nice malty sweetness, which gets counterbalanced by rye/hop spiciness. The nice rye finish reminds me of a good bottle of whiskey.
I’ve heard from people that this one is fairly ’hot’ when fresh. That is not the case, at this age. I think this one would continue to get better, even, for another year, or so.
Right now, though, it’s got a helluva’ nice balance to it.
Nice and thick, the way I like ’em. This one is almost sludgey. Not even a hint of sharpness, either. Just nice and smooth.
Well hidden ABV and smooth mouthfeel, not to mention tasting like a pepper covered caramel, make this an easy to go to brew. I’d gladly drink this one, again.

Aroma sweet, floral and citrus hops. Taste citrus hops, bitter, grapefruit and malt with bitter finish. JFURYCAT (791), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 13, 2009 Sticky chewy citrus hop presence shoots up front with a very sweet malty envelope around it. If you like caramel flavors, this one is for you. I’m okay with that element even thought it seems a wee bit too sweet. The rye does seem to subdue the sweetness a bit. The hops do it for me and the body has a good texture with a medium-dry palate. slang (399), Columbia, South Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 10, 2009 bottled. Straw golden ale w/ scents of sweet rye & malts. A perfect off-kilter IPA! The sweetness(?) of the rye gives a fun funkyness that’s supported by a strong hop backbone. Delicious. washoppinin (19), Florida, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 30, 2009 Pours a dark clear amber, off-white head. Citrus, bitter hops, pine, sweet caramel malt, alcohol, honey, rye, and even the hops seem to taste sweet. Kind of like sweet soaked bread. This is a very sweet IIPA, and I dont like that in this style.
