Commercial Description:
Volume 6: Traditionally, the Scotch call this beer 90 shilling. At Terrapin, we know it as “90 Shelling.” Magnificently malty, this 90 Shelling Scotch Ale pays tribute to the full bodied ales of Scotland.

Bottle… Dark, clear copper ale with a small, fizzy, taupe head. The aroma offers sweet chocolate, caramel and some nuttiness, but it’s far too restrained for my forty-year-old olfactory system to truly enjoy it. Full-bodied and oily with subdued carbonation. Flavor-wise, there’s potential – caramel, light chocolate, toffee – but overall, it’s thrown askew by a misplaced and overstated mineral bitterness. Lasting, mildly bitter finish. Bottle courtesy of craftbeerdesign!

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of kp. Clear, warm orangey brown with a small, off-white head. Sweet aroma of burned caramel. Quite full-bodied with a shitload of malts and burned caramel. Absolutely no bitterness. Yummy for a malthead like me! 110709

sea salty, significant peat aroma - smoke, bog, low effervescence, good tan clear appearance, some residual sweetness, cocoas and caramels. Doesn’t feel as big as 7.3. Nic residual smoke in the finish. Delicious and very well constructed. Impressive.

bomber. pours a deep brown with no head... some distant sweet malt aromas with a bit of dark fruit... massive body up front, tapering off towards the back... big candi sugar sweet notes up front with big malts, dark fruits and some caramel... towards the back there is some lingering cherry and raisin notes that come forward offering a very pleasant strong finish. turns into a nice sipper after it warms up a bit... nice scotch ale.... one of the best Side Projects so far...

August scotch amber colored with lush tan-brown head. Medium maltiness with touches of wood in the nose. Easy drinking and grainy malty body making for a well-stated scotch ale with no detectable hopping.

This bottle has been hiding in my back room for a while and even though I have had this on a number of occasions, this is the official rate. Has a very sweet, caramel, and almost meaty aroma. A little more malt presence for the style. This one falls a little short with the flavor though in that it is faint and a little watered down. After the sweetness there is some roasted malt but none of the cola or candi sugar flavors I am used to with the style. Some smoke and meat again in the flavor. I would like to see what happens if they spend a little more letting this guy ferment and get happy.
