| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 16, 2009 Bottle… Dark, clear copper ale with a small, fizzy, taupe head. The aroma offers sweet chocolate, caramel and some nuttiness, but it’s far too restrained for my forty-year-old olfactory system to truly enjoy it. Full-bodied and oily with subdued carbonation. Flavor-wise, there’s potential – caramel, light chocolate, toffee – but overall, it’s thrown askew by a misplaced and overstated mineral bitterness. Lasting, mildly bitter finish. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 22, 2009 My Bottom Line:
Toffee-laden bready malts and berry fruitiness ride this Scotch Ale’s peaceful effervescence for a delicate sipping experience.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the dark burgundy.
-This doesn’t have enough body for my tastes in the style.
-Menthol allusions are found in the flavor profile.
-The nose is lightly earthy and perhaps smoky.
