Commercial Description:
Volume 6: Traditionally, the Scotch call this beer 90 shilling. At Terrapin, we know it as “90 Shelling.” Magnificently malty, this 90 Shelling Scotch Ale pays tribute to the full bodied ales of Scotland.

Bottled. A nut brown beer with thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of metal, alcohol, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes nuts, alcohol, malt, metal, leading to a dry metallic finish. Thanks kp for sharing.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of kp. Clear, warm orangey brown with a small, off-white head. Sweet aroma of burned caramel. Quite full-bodied with a shitload of malts and burned caramel. Absolutely no bitterness. Yummy for a malthead like me! 110709

Bottle… Dark, clear copper ale with a small, fizzy, taupe head. The aroma offers sweet chocolate, caramel and some nuttiness, but it’s far too restrained for my forty-year-old olfactory system to truly enjoy it. Full-bodied and oily with subdued carbonation. Flavor-wise, there’s potential – caramel, light chocolate, toffee – but overall, it’s thrown askew by a misplaced and overstated mineral bitterness. Lasting, mildly bitter finish. My Bottom Line:
Toffee-laden bready malts and berry fruitiness ride this Scotch Ale’s peaceful effervescence for a delicate sipping experience.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the dark burgundy.
-This doesn’t have enough body for my tastes in the style.
-Menthol allusions are found in the flavor profile.
-The nose is lightly earthy and perhaps smoky.

Bottle.

Bomber courtesy of TBS. Pours brown with a thin tan head. Smells nutty with some raisins, sweet malt. Tastes of sweet malt and nutty. Tastes more like a brown ale than a Scotch ale.
