Aroma has roasty notes, cocoa and coffee. Body is on the light side for a porter. Taste has roasted coffee, chocolate, and earthy hops. A solid American porter, but I just can’t get very excited about it. Pailhead (2594), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Bottle : The aroma is all cocoa powder with the slightest hint of roast. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head. The flavor starts with moderate cocoa powder. There is a hint of fruit in the background. It finishes with some light roastiness. Medium bodied with minimal carbonation. NachlamSie (1642), Tennessee, USA

bomber. Pours a very dark red, looks near black, with a whispy head. The nose is sharp with hints at dark chocolate, wood, and peppers. Palate is just medium, maybe on the thinner side of porters. The first thing I notice is this is not overly chocolatey. It’s a rather basic porter really. I’d like more roast and a more robust maltiness. The finish has the most noticeable cocoa qualities and is tastefully bittersweet. This is a decent beer, but as with most of the side project releases from Terrapin, this is really nothing special. It’s a decent drinking porter, but doesn’t flaunt the kind of chocolate flavor the label talks up. DalzAle (494), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA

Aroma of lactose and bitter cocoa. Flavor starts chocolate, vanilla, then mellows into a little malt and smoke. A decent beer, really glad I got try this one. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2009 Pours Black with a smallish off white head. Smells of roasted malt, some hops, and a hint of chocolate cocoa. The flavor is fairly simple. The hops and cocoa powder seemed to take a front seat as far as flavor goes. Some roasted malt and chocolate as well. Not an exciting porter, but drinkable. These side project brews just all seem icredibly average to me. beerlud (22), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 13, 2009 Hardly any head. Color Dark brown in the center to a Iced tea brown on the outside. Chocolate on the nose but not too overbearing, with hints of raspberry truffle and tea leaf. The Flavor is also Chocolate with hints of espresso, and a subtle roastiness. The best part of the beer is the silky smooth chocolate finish. It feels like a Dove chocolate commercial! There is even a chewy, stickiness of an actual piece of chocolate. Pours a clear caramel with a smallish tan head. Aroma is bittersweet chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor is clean chocolate, only a little roasted malts, and ends nice and dry. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 12, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a dark dark brown with a light tan head. Great nose with lots of chocolate and a slight bit of coffee roast. Flavor is where this falls down. Its very one dimensional tons of chocolate. Good artisan chocolate but there isn’t much else there a slight bit of caramel maltiness and a touch of roast in the finish. The body is incredibly thin. There needs to be a thicker mouthfeel here. A bit of a letdown but not bad. Just not great.
