Aroma is roasted malt and cocoa. Flavor is more of the same, pretty nice chocolate flavor but maybe a bit watered down. Palate considerably thinner than I would like. Not a bad beer overall, but far from great. durhambeer (1224), Durham, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 3, 2009 Sample pour from Tyler’s. Near black pour with small creamy head. I was afraid of this beer, as I don’t usually love chocolate in my suds. That said, this pulled it off nicely. Good balance between bitter cocoa and creamy porter. Light palate. Some lactic notes. Lots of gentle roast cocoa with a very balanced flavor profile, something not always achieved in this flavor combination. Really solid. chandler0201 (358), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 31, 2009 Black pour with small tan head that quickly dissipated. This smells and tastes exactly like a dark chocolate bar of expensive vintage. Great stuff, makes you want to put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

Dark chocolate caramel aroma. Roasty.
The sweetness is balanced by the bitter chocolate.
Smooth bodied and rich. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA

Mild coffee dominates to chocolatey aroma. Chocolate flavor with some smoke. Dull mouthfeel and too light on the flavor. j12601 (1332), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Chocolate and vanilla on the nose. Sweet and slightly spicy. Rather light. Finishes with a light roast character. kramer (2495), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 24, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy light brown head that faded to a wispy film. Nice chocolaty nose with lots of cocoa powder and some roastiness. A little bit of a dry nuttiness and a touch of coffee as well. The cocoa doesn’t dominate the flavor though, much more chocolate, roast, and coffee. Finishes with a little bitterness and a dry dusty cocoa note. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a fizzy prickly carbonation level. Finishes a bit on the watery side. Overall, a pretty drinkable beer with well done cocoa flavoring.
