Commercial Description:
The Terrapin ""Dos Cocoas"" gets its name from the deep history of chocolate and the two forms of Ecuadorian cocoa we use in this exceptional beer. Brewed with 100% cocoa powder, and aged on a bed of pure cocoa nibs, the chocolate flavor in this beer is so mouth watering it will even make Wonka jealous.

Bomber. Pours a nice deep woody brown body with a medium head- some lacing. Aroma is toasty nutty chocooalt with cacoa nibs, spicy, almost chillio pepper like- almost a green jalepeno note as well, chipotle smoked spic, and dry toasty malts- with earth. Flavor is earthy dry, lots of cacoa nibs, which gets very earthy herbal and very spicy and peppery. Finish is slightly astringent with chalk dust, herbs, tobacco and too much spice and dirt. Meh.

A solid pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a three-finger, nicely browned, fully tan colored head that leaves some spotty lacing on the sides fo the glass. The beer has a dark black color that has a touch of concentrated brown to it. The aroma smells of thin cocoa / dark chocolate and finishes with some slightly acidic roast espresso notes. There is also some dark, sweet malt notes here, a nicely toasted dark whole grain bread.

The beer is a little thinner than I was expecting in the flavor, but it is in line with the nose. The beer finishes with a toasted malt note as well as a bit of a watery thinness and actually just sort of disappears with no real lingering presence. Some roasted, charcoal’esque flavors and burnt toast flavors are also in the finish. This is quite dry; with all of the burnt acidity and slight acrid notes one doesn’t notice any malt sweetness. This has some bitter cocoa notes to it but it mostly has a sharpness from the roast acrid grain.

This is not overly harsh for a Porter, but it is thin enough that what is here leaves this beer unbalanced. Not bad, it just seems weak all around though and for that reason just isn’t all that enjoyable.

Pours dark brown with tan head. Big chocolatte aroma with roasted malts and some coffee. Flavor is bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted malts and coffee. Medium body with moderate carbonation and a dry, bitter finish.

Bomber from mcbackus. Nose of bitter chocolate, roasty coffee, and caramel. Very dark brown with a medium tan head. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, and more chocolate. Finish from the thin body is very slightly bitter chocolate.

Courtesy of sebletitje. Pours dark brown with amber edges and thin tan head. The aroma is roastiness to go along with fainter burnt, molasses and earthy notes. The taste is roasty to modestly burnt to start. Just behind those two notes a thin layer of molasses is noticed. It sort of stays that way into the finish with the intermingling of sweet malts, molasses and roastiness.

22oz. Pour is lighter black with a small brown head. Aromas of chocolate, slight coffee, and roasted malts. The body is wayyy to thin on this guy. It was like a watery chocolate milk. Not enough here.Bleh.

Bomber, thanks Shigadeyo! Pours translucent cola brown with a tan ring of foam. I’m guessing that the chocolate sorta killed the head. Sweet chocolate (Hershey Bar) aroma. Medium-light body and carbonation. A little caramel in the taste, mostly chocolate. Earthy chocolate finish. Nice, but not terribly complex.
