Commercial Description:
The Terrapin ""Dos Cocoas"" gets its name from the deep history of chocolate and the two forms of Ecuadorian cocoa we use in this exceptional beer. Brewed with 100% cocoa powder, and aged on a bed of pure cocoa nibs, the chocolate flavor in this beer is so mouth watering it will even make Wonka jealous.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, and a hint of roasted malt. Poured dark brown in color with a small, beige head that lasted around the edges. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of chocolate, chocolate malts, cocoa, and a hint of alcohol. Medium body. Smooth texture. Average carbonation. Chocolate, slightly roasted finish.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color porter with an average foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of soft chocolate powder with some light roasted malt. Taste is also dominated by light cocoa powder notes with some very subtle roasted malt notes as well. I was expecting more chocolate to come through based on the description on the label. Body is somewhat thin with some medium carbonation. OK though not something I would wish to have very often.

Bomber from JCB, who seriously needs to find a Sharpie. Near black with a brown head. Big dark chocolate nose, some caramel. More dark chocolate in the flavor, mildly bitter and dry. Some coffee and roast late. Nice.

22oz bomber. Pours an almost impenetrable dark brown/black with dark brown/red highlights and a thin tan head. The aroma is slightly grainy with lots of caramel sweetness, lots of dark grain notes (chocolate and dark toasted bread), and lots of chocolate. There is a subtle hint of earthy hops in there, too. Flavor starts chocolatey with a distinct maltiness and malt sweetness - cakey with subtle sweetened coffee flavors. At mid-palate, there is a soft earthy bitterness, a good bit of robust roasted grain flavor, and more chocolate and sweetness. The finish is quite full with a bittersweet cocoa quality. The mouthfeel is quite full with a surprisingly vigorous level of carbonation tingle. The texture is thick, slippery, and almost ropey - but not quite velvety. Overall, a decent porter with a nice chocolate layer - but the sweetness and thickness are almost cloying and get in the way of drinkability.

Appearance is black with a tan head. Aroma is mainly chocolate with some malt. Taste is more chocolate and a little coffee. Bitter, slightly burnt taste in the finish. Actually a little thinner than I expected. Overall, fairly solid and not as sweet as some chocolate flavored porters.

Bottle pours deep black with thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and nice cocoa. First taste is slight roast malt and some nice cocoa. Slightly oily from the nibs. The finish is clean and crisp with a linger of mocha. I really like this speciality porter.
