I wrestled with how to rate this, because the flavors are so mild and the whole thing drinks so easily--but the marketing suggests something kind of extreme. In the end, it’s just a porter, and it’s stupid to rate a beer for anything other than what it is, no matter how much it surprised me. Pours jet black with rubied bright caramel highlights. Headless, laceless. Big chocolate nose, very dark chocolate. Creamy medium body. Low carb. Chocolate, caramel. Very mild. Delicious and drinkable. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Pours clear dark brown with a fizzy white head. The nose is very week. I hardly get any real porter character, never mind chocolate. Subtle English style brown porter flavor. Some chocolate with some herbal hops, but still no perceived added chocolate powder. Medium body with a dry chalky finish. Very weak and underwhelming. TURDFERGUSON (1606), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark dark brown. Faint notes of dark chocolate syrup in the nose and flavor. Roast throughout. Thin mouthfeel and overall another disappointment. GodOfThunder (877), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 14, 2009 Draft at Redlight Redlight. Pours a dark chocolate color. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate and biscuits. Flavors are nice, with chocolate and roasted malts, I just wish there were more. It isn’t bad, just needs a little more to take it over the top. biznizness (952), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 11, 2009 This one missed the mark for me. Aroma was cocoa but had something weird in it, and the finish was non-existent. Have had many better chocolate beers. Pass. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 11, 2009 Bottle and served in my Expedition snifter: Deep brown almost opaque with a small tan head, spotty lace. The aroma has notes of roasted and charred malt, molasses, bakers and milk chocolate, fig, and leathery esters. The taste is surprising in it lack of sweetness I figured would be there, more a porter than a beer with chocolate. Roasty and ashy with some lactic twang and hint of coffee towards the finish. While this is a porter so I expected only a moderate mouth feel, this is far too thin bodied for the flavor profile, hell it is truly watery. Starts nice but finished with a thud. Another in the line of disappointing Terrapin Side Project beers... but I will keep trying them cause you never know. USCBeerMan (109), Columbia, South Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 10, 2009 Black pour with a small off-white head. Lightly sweet, the cocoa comes through and is an impressive touch. Roasted, dark malty cocoaness, very smooth, but also a bit thin. Very Good overall.
