Commercial Description:
2008 will forever be known in professional brewing circles as the year of the Hop Shortage. Brewers everywhere are scrambling to find hops just to produce their standard line of beers. Some are so nervous they are even cutting back on brewing hoppy beers. NOT US! In typical Terrapin fashion we are going against the grain (or against the hops, so the speak). If there is going to be a shortage of hops, why not put them all into one huge hop bomb of a beer? We hope you enjoy our HOP SHORTAGE ALE.

Bottle, Thanks to Bu11zeye. Poured a clear amber with off-white head, low retention. Has hoppy aroma of grapefruit. Nice hop flavor, very slight sweet.. Mouthfeel is kinda light body, med. carbination. Just a pretty good IPA....

Small tan head with fair retention and minimal lace. Hazy, light copper, gold hued color. Nose is soft with lightly bready malts and faint citrus hop notes. Body is medium, good carbonation and a light oilyness. Fairly dry malts and a genteel citrusy hop backing, not much else going on. Dry, lightly fruity finish, lightly floral. Yes, there is a hop shortage. Props to Captaincougar for the bomber, thanks Tom!

Dark orange/copper. Small white head. Nicely rounded hop flavor and aroma- citrus, pine, florals, resin- with a small amount of pale malt sweetness in the background. Hoppy without biting, and without being balanced, definitely hop focused. Finishes clean, lightly bitter, lightly dry. Easy to drink. Medium body, balanced carbonation. Well done.

Bottle in trade from dchmela. Thanks dude!
Pours a glowing orange color with a light beige head. Smell is citrusy and sweet with orange and a strong shot of honey. Taste is nicely hopped for an IPA and tastes of sweet honey and citrusy orange. Taste and not too bitter. Very easy to drink with a mild finishing bitterness. Pretty good.

Bottle from Jimbowood. I agree with others, this beer does look fantastic. Light amber color- but really not much aroma. Flavor is odd: It’s hoppy, but not what I am usually accustomed to. Spicy, earthy hops are predominately used here. I expected a grapefruit, citrus bomb, but that’s not really present here. I suspect a little trickery: Although this is called "Hop Shortage ale" I suspect that at least some of the hops in this beer are probably not on the endangered list - because I definitely taste some Euro, almost pilsener-like hops here. Don’t get me wrong, this is pretty good stuff, I just think it’s a little misleading. But, that said, it’s an easy drinker, and another tasty beer from a damn good brewery.

Bottle from and shared by alexsdad. Poured clear copper with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus hoppy & malt aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium smooth bitter finish of moderate duration. A solid drinkable beer.
