Commercial Description:
2008 will forever be known in professional brewing circles as the year of the Hop Shortage. Brewers everywhere are scrambling to find hops just to produce their standard line of beers. Some are so nervous they are even cutting back on brewing hoppy beers. NOT US! In typical Terrapin fashion we are going against the grain (or against the hops, so the speak). If there is going to be a shortage of hops, why not put them all into one huge hop bomb of a beer? We hope you enjoy our HOP SHORTAGE ALE.

Pours a clear deep amber with a bubbly one finger head. Dissipates quickly leaving thin bubbles around edge of the glass with a swirl lingering in the middle from start to finish. Fairly strong citrus hops aroma with a hint of pine. Not as big and floral as I was expecting in a "hop bomb". Much like the aroma, the taste is dominated by citrus hops. Unlike the aroma, I get a much more floral hoppiness. Just a hint of sweetness to balance things out. Overall a very crisp, clean flavor with a very pleasant lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Light to medium body with a slightly oily feel. IIt dares you not to drink it in one big gulp. A drinkable IPA and a nice start to the new Terrapin Side Project series.

From a bottle at Raleigh Times. First of all, I wrote this review after my first ever Expedition on Draft. Therefore, while the review was extremely positive, it lacks specifics. And subtlety. And pretty much any sense at all. I was able to pull the word "orange" out of my review, so I assume that’’s appearance. Also, the word "hoppy" appears 3 times (actually, "hoppy" appears twice, and "hoopy" appears once...). So at any rate, a very good IPA.

One of the best IPA’s on the market. Malty nose, then big hop flavor! Simcoe, Cenennial, and Columbus types. Awsome hop flavor, malt is well balanced, clean, and flavorful. This beer seems under rated for what I see other beers rated on Ratebeer.com. The only thing I gig this beer on is that it needs more hop aroma. The best offering from Terrapin so far.

Pours a clear, dark orange amber color. A small, foamy, off-white head leaves behind jagged, horizontal lines of lacing. The nose is standard fare, showing prominent orange and grapefruit hop notes over a malt base of toasted caramel and toffee. Flavors show more of the same. The bitter citrus hops and the sweet, toasted malts balance each other out quite well. Medium-plus body. Smooth mouthfeel with a well balanced finish. Nothing outstanding going on here, but its a pretty decent IPA.

Bottle shared by Immy. Muchas gracias. Poured a clear medium orange color. Head was off white and left some lace behind. Smelled of flowery/grapefruity hops with caramel playing second flute. Light bodied with a relatively thin malt profile and mild to moderate hop bitterness that peaked at about 4 out of 10. The flavor was mostly flowery and grassy hops with a celery accent. So so.

22 oz bottle @ redlight redlight. Classic NW hops aroma, very citrusy with hints of pine. Pours a pale golden color with a white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma was fairly mild but the flavor is a hoppy flavor! Sharp citrus up front, with an extreme bitterness, with a lot pine resin, almost sticky feeling, not much malt character in there. this is my kind of ipa, hop forward and out of balance!!
