Commercial Description:
2008 will forever be known in professional brewing circles as the year of the Hop Shortage. Brewers everywhere are scrambling to find hops just to produce their standard line of beers. Some are so nervous they are even cutting back on brewing hoppy beers. NOT US! In typical Terrapin fashion we are going against the grain (or against the hops, so the speak). If there is going to be a shortage of hops, why not put them all into one huge hop bomb of a beer? We hope you enjoy our HOP SHORTAGE ALE.

Pours the color of a perfectly ripe georgia peach. Consistently thick frothy head. C Strong citrus fruit and hop aroma. Sour green apple and orange fruit salad with just a few peaches, and tons of pine. Strong hop flavor up front, followed by some sweetness. The body is thick and smooth and everything I look for in a hop beer.

Bottle from TURDFURGESON. Fruity/hoppy nose, apples and pears amongst pine and light orange peel. Brilliantly clear copper with an amazing head, foamy and bubbly leaving awesome lacing. Really nice hop flavor up front with a great body, folding into an intense bitterness that isn’t at all harsh. There’s a light sweetness that’s perceptible mostly as keeping the hops in check. Another great Terrapin pale.

Bottle. Thanks to solan for the bottle. Poured a clear dark amber copper body with thin head. Aroma is astringent hops. Flavor is hoppy, bitter and a sweet malty body.

Thanks to David for opening the bomber! Poured medium caramel with a moderate cap of white head. The aroma was hoppy and engaging with floral and darker grassy notes upfront.. toffee and lighter bready malts backed it up, but for the most part stayed out of the way.. warmth brought out some orange and grapefruit zest. The flavor found sweeter orange and piney notes with light fruit and toffee to back it up.. spicy and warmer on the back-end with another splash of bitterness shortly after the finish. Medium-bodied with moderate overall bitterness (still the primary character of the beer).. not as smooth as I’d like for mouthfeel. Very solid overall.

Pours to a glowing amber body with a creamy thin white head. The aroma is amazing! Rich pineapple and cattiness. Extreme hopping in this one. The flavor is sweetly hoppy but the bitterness isn’t as strong as I’d expect given the bottle description of how many hops were used. Sweet pineapple and catty hops. Subtle bitterness on the palate. Seems they used most of the hops aromatically. Some floral hops.

22 oz bottle: orangey amber w/ a thin, but lasting off white head. LIghtly hazy. Grassy, piney, & resiny at first. Lightly toasty malt, barely any caramel, but clean, also spicy. Flavor is much the same but lightly bitter in the finish & aftertaste, but slightly more malt presence, and lighly hop spicy. Very smooth m/f, nice & creamy. Ligher medium body, Overall, nice beer, but very similar to the Terrapin Rye.

This is a very piney IPA. The aroma is hoppy with citrus and pine notes. It has great flavor with an ok finish. The finish is probably the weakest part. The IPA is pinier than it is citrusy. I like it, it is too bad that it is a one-time release.
