Commercial Description:
2008 will forever be known in professional brewing circles as the year of the Hop Shortage. Brewers everywhere are scrambling to find hops just to produce their standard line of beers. Some are so nervous they are even cutting back on brewing hoppy beers. NOT US! In typical Terrapin fashion we are going against the grain (or against the hops, so the speak). If there is going to be a shortage of hops, why not put them all into one huge hop bomb of a beer? We hope you enjoy our HOP SHORTAGE ALE.

Aroma is like fruit cocktail being made in a kitchen which was cleaned with Pinesol a day earlier. Flavor is a nicely balanced combo of hops and lightly sweet malt. A bit light on the palate, but it’s 90 freaking degrees outside, so that’s being counted in it’s favor.

Bottle, thanks to alexanderj and maybe kieferuga and kleyland. Light orange-yellow pour. Aroma is earthy hops, sweet malt, biscuity malt, and citrus. The flavor is the same; light citrus hops and lots of earthy bittering hops with a nice malt balance. Smooth and non-harsh mouthfeel. Good one.

This IPA pours a deep orange color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel malt, citrus and orange hops. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are caramel and fruity. The hops are grapefruit and citrus. Lively carbonation. Lots of hops that’s for sure, but balanced by some pretty big malts. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

(22oz. bottle) Pours a clear orange body with small white head. Aroma of canned pineapple, apricot, peach, and orange gelatin. Flavor of citric hops, earthiness, and some caramel malt with a thin, watery mouthfeel. For a one-off project this is a fairly average IPA.

Light copper in color with a thin to moderate white head. Aromas of piney hops followed by some citric ones and a touch of carmelly sweetness to add some complexity. In the mouth it showed a bit soapy and herbal with light to medium body and good balance.

5-28-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to dchmela
Medium orange red amber with a thin decent fluffy white head. Smell is nice hop sweetness. Flavor is hoppy and bitter soap but not bad at all. Oranges are present in the nose and flavor. Some honey is there as well. Very mild hops and mild flavor overall. Palate is decent - nothing spectacular. Drinkable and a hint too mild and subtle for me.

I wouldn’t call this a huge hop bomb of a beer but it is still very good. Orange colored with a relatively small head but still some lacing. Citrus grapefruit and hoppy with bready malts. Slightly dry with a nice amount of hop bitterness. At first I thought the hops were strong upfront with the malts finishing off but as I worked through the bottle it seemed well balanced with the malts providing a nice backbone. Very nice.

22 oz. botlle courtesy of Hellbilly - Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a 3/4 finger thick off white head. Very light spotty lacing. Aroma is citrus, floral, and light herbal hops. Flavor is much of the fore mentioned hops with some light toasted malt. Palate is a little watery, but has no lingering aftertaste. A decent beer. Thanks Josh.
