Commercial Description:
Volume 5: This new age beer style is a fusion of two great brewing traditions that are worlds apart - a hoppy American Double IPA and a classic Belgian Tripel. Beware the Gnome in the funny green hat!

22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a small, bubbly white head. Aroma of citrus hops with a touch of grass. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and oily. Flavor is pretty nice, with citrus hops that give way to the typical begian yeast. Finish is bitter and peppery. I liked it, but not my favorite Side Project.

My Bottom Line:
Citrusy, herbal and spicy hops scent this Belgian-style IPA’s biscuity malts for a balanced and efficient hophead’s brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam sits atop the cloudy blond.
-This reminds me of À La Fût’s 2nd anniversary Belgian IPA.
-Carbonation may be a tad soft for a beer of Belgian inspiration.
-This finish is not too bitter for what is advertised as a Double IPA.
-A strange minty toothpaste aroma and flavor is found.

Bottle.

From the Bottle at the Marriott Hotel, Denver 25/09/2009 (2008 Vintage) Big hop aroma. Golden coloured strong in alcohol and hoppy with a crisp and slightly bitter malt finish.

(Rating #2753)

22 oz bottle courtesy of Beerlando. Thanks, Bryan. Pours a slightly orange tinted golden hue, light haze, decent offwhite almost eggshell head that dies to a decent film, laces ok. Aromas are a nice melange of fruity esters, banana apple pear lead the charge with a decent dosing of floral and citrusy hops on top, a touch of spicy Belgian yeast, sweeter malts, a touch of vanilla and clove. Initial is a touch soapy, very fruity with banana, apple, and pear trifecta coming forward, grainy and lightly spicy Belgian yeast, a touch soapy, fairly sweet, decent floral hop dosing but more Belgian Golden than IPA. The decent bitterness shows up on the back and finish, but surely sits in the backseat. A touch boozy, bitterness grows a decent amount but not too much, a touch of pine comes into the equation. A well hopped Belgian, but not a DIPA in my book. Good, but I’ve had better of this hybrid style. Cheers.

Pour is hazy brownish gold with very little foam. The nose is banana, pine, yeast, a little soap. The palate is very doughy, with touches of citrus and hop bitterness. I don’t get the big hops on the finish that others describe. Overall a good brew, the side project series seems hit or miss, but appears to be getting better.
