Commercial Description:
Pumpkin beers have been an American tradition since the pilgrims hit Plymouth Rock while Oktoberfest beers have been brewed in Germany since not long after Prince Ludwig got hitched in 1810. Now Terrapin is “carving” out our own special brew by combining these two great styles into a unique PUMPKINFEST beer...This Side Project has all the complex maltiness of a great Oktoberfest lager with the delicate spiciness of grandma’s fresh baked pumpkin pie.

Sampled at Knoxville Brewer’s Jam 2009. Cloudy orange, no head. Really nice aroma - spicy with lots of cinnamin and nutmeg and brown sugar. Flavor is pretty the same, maybe a little of thoses little cinnaomin candies that people put on cookies - "Red Hots" or something like that. Maybe a bit hoppyness in the end? Nice stuff.

Aroma is green, squash, nutmeg, brown sugar, mustard. Flavor is surprisingly subtle in terms of pumpkin. Muddled, watery, spicy. I suspect this was brewed with fewer pumpkins than many other pumpkin ales. Tastes maybe like a lager. Not bad, just wish there was more to it.

Bottle on 11/14/2009 courtesy of Butters. Very clear deep amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet spice aroma with a bit of pumpkin. Sweet pumpkin flavor with a bit of nutmeg and light mace. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Bottle:   Clear amber, copper hued, thin frothy white head, sparce lacing.   Muted spicy nose, some all-spice and nutmeg.   Much the same on the tongue, muted spices.   Decent malt base tho.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   The muted spices do linger. Clean finish, just not enough umph.   Thanks Rob!

Pours deep amber with some haze. Great notes of allspice and coriander. The palate shows deep malt with the pumpkin spices following the initial flavors. Great long finish.

Enjoyable nose of subtle spice, cinnamon, vanilla, caramel, toast. Pumpkin pie really, but toned down a bit. Copper orange pour, no head. The flavor has really pleasant pumpkin pie notes - cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, with toasted malt and caramel notes. Light lingering spicy sweetness. Not over done in any category. Body might have been a tad thin, but this drank nicely and was enjoyable.

22oz bomber, no date from GAManiac--thanks Grant! Clear reddish orange with a one finger, quickly fading off-white head. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin dominate the nose. There is also some caramel and a light metallic lager note. Flavor has more of a toasty malt dominance but the spices are still present,as well as some light pumpkin. Lightly sweet toasty finish with bitterness around a 2-3. Moderate prickly carbonation with a light body. Pretty good pumpkin beer.

Bomma. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Pumpkin pie notes, with some spicy cinnamon and nutmeg character. Spicy with a medium body and a light malty finish. A nice pumpkin ale.
